Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire is $1.99! This is the first book in the October Daye urban fantasy series. Many readers loved the heroine and the setting McGuire created, while some expressed confusion at certain aspects of the world-building. Have you read this one?

RECOMMENDED: It Takes Two to Tangle by Theresa Romain is 99c! This is the first book in the historical romance Matchmaker Trilogy. Elyse reviewed this book (Grade: B) and liked the heroine a lot:
If you’re a Regency fan who likes unconventional heroines, pick this book up for sure. If you like the Tragically Wounded Hero, like I do, pick it up. If you need your hero to really have his shit together, you may want to avoid it. Henry gave me heartburn sometimes, but the great conflict, and a kick ass heroine, kept me reading.

RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Yeah, you’re reading that right. If you were at RT, I squeed about this so hard, so thanks to everyone who told us about this sale. And I did a little drive by squee during a review for the second book, The Undoing:
Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)

RECOMMENDED: Mad About the Marquess by Elizabeth Essex is 99c! Elyse recently read and loved this book, giving it an A:
This book is delightful. It’s actually fucking delightful now I think about it, which is like delightful times ten. The dialogue is wonderful and sass wars are just about my favorite thing ever. The plot is just enough crazysauce layered on top of historical goodness. There was literally nothing about Mad About the Marquess that I didn’t like.

RECOMMENDED: A Gentleman’s Game by Theresa Romain is 99c! Redheadedgirl read this historical romance and gave it an A:
Theresa Romain basically created a series just for me, and the first full-length book just confirms it. She reached into my head and found the references and plot that would make me happiest, and gave those thoughts a beautiful cover and said, “Here!”

I think almost everyone has felt to be the outsider at some point in their lives and I think everyone would love a second chance. In Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress, Theresa Romain brings together two outsiders who live in the shadows of the glittering ton during the Regency and gives them the opportunity for second chances. At the beginning of the story, heiress Augusta Meredith is posing as a cheerful and not wealthy widow … Continue reading Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress by Theresa Romain →

As the title suggests, we have three books with some historical element to them. So if that’s your bag, gird your book budget accordingly.

The Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev is $2.99! This is a recommended contemporary romance and is currently nominated in the Contemporary Romance category. Redheadedgirl and Carrie did a joint review of the book and gave it a B+:
CarrieS: My super short review is, As a novel, this book is great, but as a romance novel, it’s not as good because the hero is not terribly convincing as a character. It’s interesting that we don’t get his point of view directly. That would have helped, because his character swings back and forth a lot between angel and jerk.
RHG: Yeah, it’s…. it’s kind of old school in that way? We get very little of the hero’s POV and it’s all about her. And yet decidedly neo-classic in that the trauma the heroine goes through has actual lasting consequences that aren’t fixed by magic wang.

This is a huge month for book releases. HUGE! We have twenty books this time and our TBR piles are just getting bigger and bigger. So much for Spring cleaning. And of course, don’t forget to tell us what new releases you’re excited about this month!

Who doesn’t love a good party in general, right? They’re often fun, especially with a few cohorts in attendance, and sometimes they can have a pretty decent food and drink selection. But a house party in a historical romance is a whole ‘nother beast. There are fantastic dresses and oh, the cravats! There’s usually some sort of scheming happening and super secret canoodling happening in a drawing room or dimly lit garden. All manner of … Continue reading The Rec League: Historical Romances with House Parties →

It’s February! And honestly, that has very little bearing on this tasty drink I’m about to make, aside from the fact that if I make a mint julep at noon on a Wednesday, I’ll forget about the fact that 2016 is already going by way too quickly for my comfort. It also means I’m one month closer to some family holiday and my Italian mother laying on the guilt that she doesn’t have grandchildren yet. … Continue reading Covers & Cocktails Giveaway: Off to the Races →
