RECOMMENDED: Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy by Karen Abbott is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched at Barnes & Noble. This nonfiction book tells the history of four kickass women during the Civil War. Carrie reviewed the book and gave it an impressive A+:
The book is interesting and exciting and paints incredible pictures of very different women who, love them or hate them, lived unusual lives of great political and personal passion and daring.

RECOMMENDED: It Takes Two to Tangle by Theresa Romain is $1.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! This is the first book in the historical romance Matchmaker Trilogy. Elyse reviewed this book (Grade: B) and liked the heroine a lot:
If you’re a Regency fan who likes unconventional heroines, pick this book up for sure. If you like the Tragically Wounded Hero, like I do, pick it up. If you need your hero to really have his shit together, you may want to avoid it. Henry gave me heartburn sometimes, but the great conflict, and a kick ass heroine, kept me reading.

Under Her Skin by Adriana Anders is 99c! Readers warn that this is a contemporary romance on the darker side, but many say this is a great debut by Anders. I actually bought this when it was last on sale and was thrilled to see it out in the wild at my local independent bookstore. If you missed out on the sale last time, you’re in luck!

RECOMMENDED: Fortune Favors the Wicked by Theresa Romain is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being priced matched. There’s a treasure hunt, a blind hero, and a former courtesan heroine. Talk about catnip! Redheadedgirl gave this an A grade in a Lightning Review:
What I found the most interesting about this book was how the blind hero was written. He hadn’t always been blind – he was struck by a disease while he was in the Navy – and the narrative describes with abundant detail how he moves through a world he can’t see, but he still perceives. And I really appreciated that she doesn’t magically cure him of his blindness. Love doesn’t cure all things, and this is a part of who he is now.

I really, really like Theresa Romain’s writing. She does this thing with tiny moments and actions that don’t seem significant until later, when after a few pages they become the type of detail that makes me press my hand to my chest, lest my heart be attempting to slide out through my ribs. Words are not wasted, characters are carefully, finely developed, and there’s a buffet of dialogue, too. An all-you-can-read style buffet of dialogue, with layers … Continue reading Passion Favors the Bold by Theresa Romain →

The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae is $1.99! This is a memoir with a lot of humor and even inspired Rae’s HBO show Insecure. Many readers found Rae’s essays to be self-deprecating and relatable. However, some readers had issues with Rae’s narrative style.

RECOMMENDED: A Gentleman’s Game by Theresa Romain is 99c! Redheadedgirl read this historical romance and gave it an A:
Theresa Romain basically created a series just for me, and the first full-length book just confirms it. She reached into my head and found the references and plot that would make me happiest, and gave those thoughts a beautiful cover and said, “Here!”

RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Yeah, you’re reading that right. If you were at RT, Sarah squeed about this so hard, so thanks to everyone who told us about this sale. And she did a little drive by squee during a review for the second book, The Undoing:
Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)
The second book is also on sale for $2.99!
