A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher is 99c and part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals! This one was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet, and the SBTB team has really been enjoying Kingfisher’s books lately.
Content warning: there is a fair bit of violence, some of it quite gory, because the adventure part of the plot involves killer zombie-golems, were-beasts, gladiatorial arenas, kidnappers and more. The Devil of Downtown by Joanna Shupe is 99c! Amazon says this is a “limited time deal.” How limited? I have no idea. My main gripe with this series is that the three sisters have an awful, sexist dad. The books kind of overlap in terms of a timeline, so you get to experience the dad in all of his shittiness three times around.

All of that is to say: if you stare at walls a lot right now and you can’t really read because everything is just too much all the time? You’re not alone. I get you. And if you want to try a book that gets it too, and will remind you that there can be light at the end of this god-awful tunnel, maybe try this one.
Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire is $2.99! I love this series. The writing is so beautiful and I would happily send 300+ pages in the world McGuire has created. However, I will warn that these books have a haunting sadness to them and as romance readers, the HEAs we love aren’t the HEAs the characters want. (If that makes any sense without spoiling.)
The first time I read Paladin’s Grace, I finished it, turned back to the beginning, and immediately read it again.
