GUESS WHAT Y’ALL! Not only are we here at the hot pink palace celebrating our 20th anniversary (and yes, you can still get a sticker!) but guess who else is? Yup, the original Twilight! It is not an exaggeration to say that this book changed the trajectory of publishing. Seriously, think of all the trends and subgenres that grew out of Twilight. Off the top of my head, Twilight influenced so many aspects of the industry, such as: YA … Continue reading Twilight is 20, and I’m Recommending Books in The New York Times →

RECOMMENDED: Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis is $2.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale. Carrie gave this one a B+:
In these trying times, it’s incredibly comforting to read a book in which people have faith in other people and in which people are given the opportunity and tools they need to develop faith in themselves.

Well this was just delightful. Wooing the Witch Queen revolves around one of my least favorite tropes: The Big Misunderstanding. And yet, it is a delight from beginning to end, with a minimum amount of stupidity and wonderful characters. Here’s the publisher’s description of the plot: Queen Saskia is the wicked sorceress everyone fears. After successfully wrestling the throne from her evil uncle, she only wants one thing: to keep her people safe from the … Continue reading Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis →

Happy Tuesday! We’re listing the new releases high on our TBR piles. This week skews heavily to fantasy and horror, with one lone contemporary romance. Which releases are on your radar this week? Let us know in the comments!

Book Beat aims to highlight other books that we may hear about through friends, social media, or other sources. We could see a gorgeous ad! Or find a new-to-us author on a list of underrated romances! Think of Book Beat as Teen Beat or Tiger Beat, but for books. And no staples to open to get the fold-out poster.
Happy weekend, everyone! We have reached September! Here’s what we’re reading lately: … Lara: I’m bravely continuing my hunt for new release vampire romance novels. So far all the ones I’ve tried have been really disappointing. I’m currently trying Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London, but it’s too early to tell if I’m onto a winner or not. Sarah: What are you looking for re: vampires? Lara: This is probably embarrassing to admit but I’m looking … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? September 2024, Part One →

Happy Tuesday! I wasn’t lying when I said the first week of August was bursting with new releases. We have over a dozen that we’re excited for or might be on your radar. Welcome back to Wednesday Links! I feel like things have been a blur lately, but we’re starting our Dungeons and Dragons: Curse of Strahd campaign back up again this weekend. We took a few months off due to one of our players getting married and for other, less exciting conflicts. I’ve been doing a lot of cozy gaming on my Switch in the bathtub and I got my flu shot. My responsible thing evens out my reckless … Continue reading Links: Coupons, Tea, & More →

A Most Unlikely Duke by Sophie Barnes is $3.99! This is the first book in the Diamonds in the Rough historical romance series and the next book is also $3.99. Carrie read this one and gave it a B:
I loved this book for its lovely use of language, its focus on the problems of both the lower and upper classes, the incredibly likeable characters, and the affirming, sexy, sweet romance.
