RECOMMENDED: The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is the third book in the Call of Crows series, which Sarah absolutely loves.
Sarah gave this book a B:
This series, and each book within it, makes me feel better whenever I’m stressed or feeling powerless and overwhelmed. It acknowledges the rage inherent in feeling powerless, and transforms that rage into useful, powerful action. It’s the best kind of catharsis. The Unyielding may not be my favorite of the series, but I still recommend the Crows books loudly to everyone who will listen to me.

Circe by Madeline Miller is $4.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price matched. I know $4.99 is a little higher for books we feature on sale, but everyone and their mom has been loving Circe lately. I want to say that half of my book group has read it by now. Have you read it? Does it live up to the hype?

RECOMMENDED: Fortune Favors the Wicked by Theresa Romain is $1.99! There’s a treasure hunt, a blind hero, and a former courtesan heroine. Talk about catnip! Redheadedgirl gave this an A grade in a Lightning Review:
What I found the most interesting about this book was how the blind hero was written. He hadn’t always been blind – he was struck by a disease while he was in the Navy – and the narrative describes with abundant detail how he moves through a world he can’t see, but he still perceives. And I really appreciated that she doesn’t magically cure him of his blindness. Love doesn’t cure all things, and this is a part of who he is now.

When I recommend Shelly Laurenston’s books to readers whose tastes I’m not entirely familiar with, I often include some caveats: her writing style is unique, and while I enjoy it tremendously, I know it doesn’t work for everyone. Her characters talk like real people, real smart assed people, and they get into situations that are often so completely over the top you either have to surrender to the campy, extraordinary fun or you might be annoyed … Continue reading Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston →

Patricia Briggs fans, are you excited for Burn Bright ? With this Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas … Continue reading March’s New Releases →

RECOMMENDED: The Glassblower by Petra Durst-Benning is $1.99! This was recommended to Redheadedgirl at our RT Reader Recommendation Party in Atlanta and she gave it a B:
There are a lot of details of how glassblowing works, and how the village of Lauscha is set up. It’s right on the cusp of a new age for Germany (so, if you’re a nerd like me, you know that the ghosts of World War One are over the horizon), and the role women are playing in society. I think the best stories come from eras of change because of the tension created by that societal change, and this is a good one.

Short version: This book is seriously fun, and I had a very good time reading it. Yes, you should read books one and two, but you must know by the number of times I’ve squeed about this series, including in my review, that having to read them is not at all a bad thing. Go read books 1 and 2, then get 3, then lie back and bask in the collective bliss of getting to … Continue reading The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston →

March is here and our TBR piles are feeling the weight of all these new and awesome book releases. Sarah, Elyse, and I have books that we’re excited about, like new fantasy YA, historical romances, and erotica, but there are a few titles that we didn’t list, but you may be excited about: The Bloggess’ Jenny Lawson has a coloring book coming out called You Are Here . Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop is the fifth … Continue reading March’s New Releases →

RECOMMENDED: The Blades of the Rose bundle by Zoe Archer is $2.99 at select vendors! The bundle is four books with lots of adventuring in a historical setting and some steampunk elements. I really enjoyed this series, though I think Warrior might be my favorite. Any other fans of the series in the Bitchery?
