It’s Cover Awe time! For those who are new to the site, this is where we look at covers we think are intriguing, pretty, or just really dang neat! Cover design by Melissa Williams Design Sarah: All the Holmberg covers have been so visually striking. I love the papercut design. Amanda: Yes! I love a good theme that carries over to all of an author’s books. Don’t get me started on when a series changes … Continue reading Cover Awe: Abs, Millennial Pink, & More→
RECOMMEND: The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary is $2.99! We had a great guest review of this one and Lisa the Librarian gave it an A-:
It was romantic, sweet, hot, funny, and original – everything I’m looking for in a romance. I can definitely see myself rereading this in the not-too-distant future.
His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras is 99c! This contemporary romance features a single dad hero and a dance teacher heroine. Sonali Dev recommended this on a previous podcast episode. She did mention that at times, the book felt more like women’s fiction with a focus on family than a romance.
Among my favorite things about Laurenston’s writing is how very affirming and inspiring and a whole lot of fun it is, because angry, fearless women make room for themselves, they get shit done, and they’re the heroines. More honey badgers, please.
In a Badger Way by Shelly Laurenston is $2.99! This is the second book in the Honey Badgers series and I even made a special cocktail for it! Laurenston’s books are very much over the top with lots of improbable scenarios. Sometimes, that may just be what you need.
RECOMMENDED: Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik is $1.99! This is a sci-fi romance that released earlier this year and I absolutely loved it. You can read my A- here:
I am so incredibly happy that this book is in the world, especially after feeling like I’ve exhausted all my sci-fi romance options. Polaris Rising is exciting. It’s funny. It’s fan-fucking-tastic. My quibbles are minor in comparison to the joyful Good Book Noises I made while reading this.
Are you all ready for another cocktail? I am, especially when honey badgers are involved. This cocktail is inspired by In a Badger Way and sponsored by Kensington! Sarah is a fan of the series and honestly, I’m also rather charmed by the MacKilligan honey badger shifter sisters. Though this is still a romance, the Honey Badger series has more of a focus on the three sisters: Charlie, Max, and Stevie. That sisterly bond carries the … Continue reading Covers & Cocktails: DGAF→
Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)
I can say, without a doubt, that A Promise of Fire is going on my keeper shelf. I want more of these characters and I want more of this world. I cannot remember the last time I wanted to both savor and devour a book, and Bouchet’s writing is so engaging and magical that I wish she had some sort of backlist I could dive into for the next few months.
Welcome to Lit Wicks! This is where we pair an author’s backlist with candles to really immerse yourself in the reading experience. All of the candles featured in these post are from Etsy, which means there is often worldwide shipping and that you’re supporting independent crafters and sellers. The Etsy candle rabbit hole is one I have gone down many times. For October, we’re recommending candles for some of our favorite paranormal romances. All of … Continue reading Lit Wicks: Recommended Paranormal Romances→
