RECOMMENDED: The Lord I Left by Scarlett Peckham is 99c! Thanks for everyone who let us know about this sale. I believe it’s best to read this series in order, rather than as standalones. Claudia gave this one a B+:
There was a lot to like and enjoy: plenty of funny and tender moments, thoughtful discussions, and some of my favorite setups in romance, including an “one room at the inn” scenario.

I believe this is new for our “Best Of” week, but I challenged each of our reviewers to pick their favorite release of 2020, whether they reviewed it or not. Some of them weren’t too happy they had to pick just one, though this place would be absolutely lawless if I didn’t make rules! Here are our favorites of the year! We’d also love to hear about your best read of 2020!

Paradise Cove by Jenny Holiday is $1.99! This is the second book in the Matchmaker Bay series. We’ve heard good things about it and Aarya mentioned it on a Hide Your Wallet over the summer. Have you read it?

RECOMMENDED: The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham is $3.99! Carrie read this one and have it an A-:
The combination of personal catnip with descriptive language and complex characterization is spot on. I recommend this for fans of vocal feminism, found family, angst, and explicit sex in their historicals. I plan to read my copy many, many times!

TW: Dead birds, alcoholism, death of infants at birth, spousal abuse I came here looking for an amazing story and Bitches, I was not disappointed. Even during a time when I have an attention span of about five seconds, this book kept me reading. It up-ended tropes, subverted expectations, and, thanks to the Author’s Note, gave me a seriously happy historical fix. The romance itself combines some actual realities with a big dose of crumbling … Continue reading The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham →

If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading April’s New Releases, Part Two →
After reading a slew of perfectly adequate but largely forgettable romances lately, reading The Lord I Left was a nice, trope-tastic surprise. Granted, I’d sign up for pretty much any story featuring a snowy road trip, but I got a lot more than that by the end of this book. Henry Evesham, Methodist preacher, former editor of a “evangelical news rag,” and a Lord Lieutenant tasked with investigating London’s sex trade, is saying his goodbyes … Continue reading The Lord I Left by Scarlett Peckham →

In case you missed it: I know last Hide Your Wallet we instituted some changes. Well now we have more, thanks to the comment left by Katie C. A lot of you expressed wanting to keep the wide breadth of new releases and Katie’s suggestion was pretty great. We’re still keeping our book maximums (five per person), but have added an extra HYW post per month, allowing another five books per person. The first HYW … Continue reading January’s New Releases, Part Two →

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik is $2.99! This is a lovely fantasy with romantic elements. My friend and I recently discussed Novik and comparisons between Uprooted and Spinning Silver. We feel Spinning Silver was the better of the two, but both are still REALLY GOOD. What are your thoughts?

RECOMMENDED: Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse is $4.99! This is part of the Kindle Daily Deal $4.99 Bestseller sale and, even though this one is more expensive than our usual sales, I firmly believe it’s worth it. I bought the book at full price and immediately preordered the second one upon finishing. You can find my review here!
