Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne is $4.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and today’s deals have A LOT of romance. Elyse gave this one a B+:
The theme of slowly exiting your safe space when the time was right was so timely and on point for me. It was because Teddy was so kind and gentle with Ruthie in her journey to come out of her shell, and appreciative of who she was without wanting her to change (but supporting her desire to) that this book worked. When Teddy and Ruthie begin to fall for each other, it made total sense.

Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and I believe came out earlier this year. Thorne’s debut was much-loved, though her follow up was meh for most of us. I thought someone on the site reviewed this one, but I think I’m wrong.

RECOMMENDED: The Hating Game by Sally Thorne is $1.99! This is part of 10 pages of Kindle Daily Deals, which include lots of romance and some cookbooks! Sarah really loved this one, though made a mention of some offensive language. However, I believe subsequent copies have the offending language changed. Correct me if I’m wrong.
If your reading catnip, like mine, includes a blend of dialogue that crackles with intensity and emotion, cranky, stoic heroes with hidden, squishy depths, and vivid, self-assured heroines who take exactly zero crap from said hero, you should find yourself a copy of this book.

I read Second First Impressions at exactly the right time. A big theme in this romance is healing from trauma and coming out of isolation, and at the time I read it I had just scheduled my first Covid shot. This theme resonated so much with me I found myself crying while I read, big fat tears soaking into my pillow, but it was a cathartic cry and it felt good. There were also moments … Continue reading Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne →

RECOMMENDED: A Phoenix First Must Burn edited by Patrice Caldwell is $2.99! Carrie and Maya did a joint review of this one and gave it an A:
Maya: I loved so many of the stories! One of the standouts for me was “When Life Hands You a Lemon Fruitbomb” by Amerie (yes, that Amerie), which opened up the anthology. It’s a science fiction story with aliens, wormhole travel, and a classic time travel paradox

RWA is over! And my feet are so grateful. If you missed the RWA RITA award ceremony, I hope RWA uploads it to their YouTube soon. I haven’t been able to find it posted just yet. The speeches were amazing. I cried. And we finally (FINALLY) have a Black author winning a RITA. Two authors, in fact! The RITA also has its first South Asian author winning. You could not recreate the energy in that … Continue reading Links: Brooklyn 99, Forced Proximity, & More →

RECOMMENDED: A Notorious Vow by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals and it’s being price-matched. This was my first Shupe and I loved it. Feel free to read my review, where I gave it an A-:
This book is a gem. It gave me those starry-eyed, book-drunk feelings that were very reminiscent of when I finished my first Lisa Kleypas historical.

RECOMMENDED: The Rook by Daniel O’Malley $1.99 at select vendors! Carrie loves the series, especially the sequel Stiletto. It’s urban fantasy set in London with a badass cast of characters. But some found the book to have a lot of info-dumping. Have you read The Rook?
