I felt like this was full of Shakespearean drama, and scheming families, and hot sex, and gorgeous clothes, but also some important things to say about how the world is functioning. There’s a lot going on, though, and the ending a tad rushed.
Awaken the Dragon by A.C. Arthur is $1.99! This is the first book in a paranormal romance that features dragons. It was also mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet. Do fall and Halloween get you in a PNR mood?
RECOMMENDED: Hearts on Hold by Charish Reid is $2.99! Catherine gave this a Squee review, though the comments definitely brought up some ethics issues.
Really, if you like sweet, sexy heroes who are completely supportive of their heroines, and if you like smart, ambitious heroines who are really good at what they do, and if you love libraries and teasing and friends and kindness, not to mention innuendo that manages to be both silly and seductive at the same time, then you will love this.
Jade City by Fonda Lee is $2.99! This adult fantasy novel incredibly violent, according to reviews. But readers loved the world building and threads of mythology weaved into the story. To be honest, the book sounds intense and awesome. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.
RECOMMENDED: How Long ’til Black Future Month by N.K. Jemisin is $2.99! This is part of today’s awesome selection of Kindle Daily Deals and I wanted to be sure and highlight it. Carrie gave this an A grade in a Lightning Review. You really can’t go wrong with Jemisin.
Meet Cute by Helena Hunting is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, which also features some more romances on sale. I made a yummy, boozy chocolate peanut butter milkshake for this release. Readers found this to be a little too cutesy, while others recommend this one for a bubbly and sweet romance.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole is $2.99! Simply put, GET THIS BOOK. It was our book club selection for April and Sarah completely loved it:
First, yes, you should absolutely read this book immediately, if you haven’t already. There is so much happening in the conflict within each of the protagonists, between the protagonists, and around them and their allies and enemies, I can’t possibly discuss all of it, but please know: if you are a reader (and why else would you be here, right?) this book is a marvelous, intelligent, respectful, breathtaking treat for your brain.
There are historical romances that are actually historical and there are historical romances that say, “The hell with history, these people are gonna be unchaperoned ALL THE TIME and we’re throwing in a magical cat.” How To Manage a Marquess is one of the latter. There are romances, thrillers, and historical fiction. Some readers felt that this book didn’t really offer anything new in the way of women-centric thrillers, while the climax had people on the edge of their seats.
A Distant Heart by Sonali Dev is $2.99! If you listened to our podcast episode with Sonali, she summarizes the book as a Rapunzel retelling set in Mumbai. Hello! Though some readers say this isn’t their favorite romance by Dev, it’s still pretty dang good.
Wild at Whiskey Creek by Julie Anne Long is $1.99! This is book two in Julie Anne Long’s contemporary romance Hellcat Canyon series. Readers say this romance has a lot of sexual tension and the hero and heroine have quite a bit to overcome. However, others had mixed emotions about the heroine. Have you read this one?
