Hamilton’s Battalion by Rose Lerner, Courtney Milan, and Alyssa Cole

Hamilton’s Battalion

Hamilton’s Battalion is a wonderful trio of romance novellas set in America during or immediately following the Revolutionary War. I don’t think I’ve ever before found a romance anthology in which all the stories were equally well written. I had high expectations for Courtney Milan and Alyssa Cole, because I’m a fan of their other work, and they did not disappoint. I’ve never read anything by Rose Lerner before, but her novella was also wonderful. … Continue reading Hamilton’s Battalion by Rose Lerner, Courtney Milan, and Alyssa Cole

Cover Awe: Manchests

True Pretenses by Rose Lerner. The hero's red coat is being opened by the heroine. The hero also has some significant chest hair!

This edition of Cover Awe is all about acceptable abs and man-titty! What covers get it right for us? Here are a handful of some A+ examples! Sarah: I really like this because he’s big and strong but also has chest hair and no discernible ab pattern. He broadcasts a different kind of strength – which fit the character. Amanda: YOU PROMISED CHEST HAIR AND I SEE NONE! Sarah: Right here: Sarah: I may be … Continue reading Cover Awe: Manchests

RECOMMENDED: Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, so get it while you can! Sarah read this book a couple months ago and gave it a B grade:

Overall, I think this book contains a fabulous world with a terrific, galloping adventure through a vivid and wrenching underworld. While I was reading it, I had a hard time putting it down. But the story has most of its strength in the plot and the world-building than in the characters and their emotional development and consistency, and I missed those aspects even while I enjoyed the rest.

Books on Sale: The Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev & More

The Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev is $2.99! This is a recommended contemporary romance and is currently nominated in the Contemporary Romance category. Redheadedgirl and Carrie did a joint review of the book and gave it a B+:

CarrieS: My super short review is, As a novel, this book is great, but as a romance novel, it’s not as good because the hero is not terribly convincing as a character. It’s interesting that we don’t get his point of view directly. That would have helped, because his character swings back and forth a lot between angel and jerk.

RHG: Yeah, it’s…. it’s kind of old school in that way? We get very little of the hero’s POV and it’s all about her. And yet decidedly neo-classic in that the trauma the heroine goes through has actual lasting consequences that aren’t fixed by magic wang.

Books on Sale: Sweet Disorder by Rose Lerner & More

Sweet Disorder by Rose Lerner is 99c at most vendors and has been recommended at SBTB in the past. This is a unique historical featuring the son of an earl, and a heroine who has one piece of power: two votes. She can’t cast them (pesky ovaries) but her husband can, so her hand in marriage makes her a political pawn. This book has a 3.7-star average and you can grab the second one too for 99c!

Books on Sale: A Lily Among Thorns by Rose Lerner & More

A Lily Among Thorns by Rose Lerner is 99c! This is a historical romance that deals with some close quarters interaction, as the heroine offers the hero a place to stay. Readers mentioned that Solomon makes a great beta hero, if that happens to be your catnip. However, others said there was too much going on aside from the central plot. Have you read this one?
