GUESS WHAT Y’ALL! Not only are we here at the hot pink palace celebrating our 20th anniversary (and yes, you can still get a sticker!) but guess who else is? Yup, the original Twilight! It is not an exaggeration to say that this book changed the trajectory of publishing. Seriously, think of all the trends and subgenres that grew out of Twilight. Off the top of my head, Twilight influenced so many aspects of the industry, such as: YA … Continue reading Twilight is 20, and I’m Recommending Books in The New York Times →
Variation is a tough book to review. On one hand, I found myself putting aside things that I needed to get done in order to keep reading it, but on the other, I found the frequent “surprise” reveals in the plot to be so frequent that sometimes they felt silly. This book starts off as a forbidden summer romance. The four Rousseau sisters vacation at their family summer house in Haven Cove every year, but … Continue reading Variation by Rebecca Yarros →

If you are even remotely on bookish social media, then you are aware of Fourth Wing. It’s been much-hyped and sold out and everywhere I look online there are rave reviews for this YA-fantasy-romance. I am not here to yuck anyone’s yum. If you read Fourth Wing and you loved it, I am totally happy for you. I want people to love what they read. This was not a book that worked for me, though, … Continue reading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros →

RECOMMENDED: The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and Sarah previously gave it B+:
If you’re curious about your own habit formation, what motivates you, and how to work with your own tendency, you should definitely take the quiz and check out the book. It would likely be an insightful read.

Shades of Treason by Sandy Williams is $2.99! This is a scifi romance where the heroine and her former mentor experience pants feelings. Readers loved the amount of action in the book, but felt the ending was unresolved and seemed like a cliffhanger. The follow up book is $4.99, if you’re determined to continue.

RECOMMENDED: Graceling by Kristin Cashore is $1.99 at select vendors! This is also a Kindle Daily Deal. This is a YA fantasy novel with romantic elements and I LOVED it. The entire series is pretty great, to be honest. The heroine is strong and all sorts of badass, but she’s also trying to cope with being a hired killer for the king. Also check out the other KDDs for today, which include more romance and Wolf Hall.

RECOMMENDED: Opening Up by Lauren Dane is $2.99! This is the first book in the Ink & Chrome erotic contemporary series. Elyse gave the book an A-:
First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous the cover of Opening Up is. I’d hang that on my wall. I really would. But the contents of the book are just as lovely.
Still this book was incredibly sexy and often very funny. It made me duck out on the coworker I was traveling with: “I’d love to go to TGI Fridays with you, but PJ and Asa have a new leather cane they’ve been dying to try out and also I need to know how his weenus piercing feels without a condom, so I’m gonna just head up to my room, ‘kay, thanks.”
