Welcome back to Get Rec’d! This is where I talk about reading recommendations that I’ve given or that have come across my path recently. This time around, we have some nonfiction, a dystopian sci-fi novel, a contemporary romance that flew under the radar, and some for YA soft fantasy lovers. Have you received any great book recommendations lately? Want to recommend one?
This Rec League came from Kirsty. Thanks, Kirsty! Ace-spectrum and or aro-spectrum fiction (both romance and non-romance) is fine. Bonus points for characters exploring/still trying understand their a-romanticism/sexuality. Shana: One of my favorite authors for ace romance is Claire Kann. I’m reading The Romantic Agenda right now, and I love it! Most of her asexual characters start the book with an understanding of their sexuality though, and the plot is more about them finding a … Continue reading The Rec League: Ace- and Aro-Spectrum Books→
This Rec League request comes from Briney in the SBTB Patreon Discord: I just finished another book where the male main character was ripped and I’m tired of this being the model for male leads. Give me the dad bods, the bears, the beefy guys. What books should I read for that? Amanda: Our discord recommended: Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade, Role Playing by Cathy Yardley , and Rhythm by Marie Lipscomb Sarah: One of … Continue reading The Rec League: Body Diversity in Heroes→

Welcome back, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and ready for some more recommendations. I definitely have some seasonal reading recs, like a horror anthology and some adorable witchy middle grade fiction. I also have a murder mystery classic from Japan and some non-fiction. Have any of you received any great book recommendations? Any books you really want to put on our radar? Tell us in the comments!
Welcome back to Wednesday Links! I just got back from taking Linus to the vet for a check up and he’s gained a pound, which is great. (Backstory: Linus was diagnosed with a thyroid condition about two years ago and seeing his weight come back has been great.) However, he is very much a grumpy old man with lots of fighting spirit. We’re also getting some fall weather in New England, so I’m making chili! … Continue reading Links: Book Recs, Auctions, Matt Berry, & Peter Capaldi→
This Rec League request came from JoVE on our SBTB Patreon Discord: I’m staying with friends. Their daughter (17) would like to avoid all sexual violence in books, including consent violations. I figured people here would understand what that means (their experience is people define sexual violence too narrowly). I know she likes fantasy but possibly other stuff. Any suggestions? Elyse: Legends and Lattes. The sequel comes out next month I believe. If she’s looking … Continue reading The Rec League: Books without Consent Violations→
Welcome back, everyone! Thank you all for celebrating with me last time when we hit our 50th post. Now it’s onward and upward. I feel like I’ve been on a kick with recommending non-fiction and that is definitely continuing. I have an anthology that is part cookbook and part memoir, plus a true crime collection all about poisoners. I also have a cute picture book and fantastic novella! For something non-book related, I also wanted … Continue reading Get Rec’d with Amanda – Volume 51→
This Rec League came from Meg in our SBTB Patreon Discord server. Thanks, Meg! Do you have recommendations for books based on or inspired by Shakespeare plays? I recently read Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese, which is inspired by Much Ado About Nothing (my favorite play) and it made me want more! Shakespeare’s comedies end in marriage, so they seem like good candidates to be adapted into romance novels. Sarah: Ramón and … Continue reading The Rec League: Shakespeare Retellings→
Welcome back to Wednesday Links! How are we all doing? I can start to feel fall in the air and I’m so ready. Also, I’m eager for this jam-packed month to be over. Before my partner and I go grocery shopping, we pick the 3-4 meals we plan to cook in the next couple weeks. I found a harissa-spiced cauliflower soup recipe in the Cookish cookbook and I’m looking forward to that the most. I love … Continue reading Links: A GoFundMe, Sapphic Reading Recs, & More→
We’ve hit fifty posts! Can you believe it?! This one is full of book recommendations I’ve found from other people or recommendations given to me personally. There’s some oceanic horror, pop culture deep dives, supervillains, and Arthurian legends. Have you picked up anything based on a recommendation lately? Have a rec you want to pass along? Let us know!
Welcome back, everyone! How are we all doing? I can’t stop thinking about this Smitten Kitchen recipe for Pizza Beans. We ate almost all of it in one go and have been mourning the loss of leftovers. Do y’all have any recent recipes that you’re loving? I’m also hoping we’re slowly sliding into fall soon in New England. I’m a sucker for “soup season” and big, oversized sweaters. … Sarah: I was the guest this … Continue reading Links: Podcasts, Reading Recs, & More→
