The Blighted Stars is the first book in a series, so we don’t get a ton of resolution in this novel, romantic or otherwise. If you’re looking for a complete romantic arc, don’t start this book.
Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep is the first book in a fantasy series that features a badass female gladiator on a quest to reclaim the throne from her murderous cousin. It’s tremendous fun, although it wraps up quickly.
Don’t start Our Crooked Hearts unless you have time to finish it.
It’s such a wonderful, spooky, thrilling story that it’s hard to put down. It’s a book about imperfect parents, teenage dissatisfaction, and female empowerment and it unfolds beautifully. It’s also a remarkable ghost story.
Dangerous Ground by Rachel Grant is $1.99! This is book one in the Fiona Carver series and I’m unsure if it’s romantic suspense or more of a mystery series with romantic elements. Book two is also on sale!
If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading January 2022 New Releases, Part One→
Anchored Hearts by Priscilla Oliveras is $2.99! This is book two in the Keys to Love series and has a second chance romance. This isn’t my favorite trope, but I enjoyed this book. If you like really emotional contemporaries, this will tick that box.
Firestorm by Rachel Grant is $1.99 at Amazon! This is part of Grant’s Flashpoint romantic suspense series and I’ve heard such good things about the series as a whole. This has an enemies to lovers setup between two operatives sent into the Congo. Have you read this one? Are you a fan of the Flashpoint books?
Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is book one in the Brooklyn Bruisers series about a hockey team. Both Elyse and I have enjoyed books in this series, though I think we both agree that the second book, Hard Hitter is our favorite. Readers loved the second chance romance in this book, but found the pacing in the first half a bit slow.
The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel by Jennifer McQuiston is 99c! This is part of the Seduction Diaries series and readers are divided on whether they eventually warmed up to the hero. Jennifer’s podcast interviews on the site is one of my faves because she’s so fascinating.
RECOMMENDED: Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare is $2.99! This is the first book in the Castles Ever After historical romance series. Sarah reviewed it and gave it a B+:
I think this is a truly unique historical that will appeal to readers who aren’t often historical fans. This story captures both a distant time period, and the present day, reflecting it in the characters – with a story and a parallel set of references beside it that grow together until the meaning of both is intertwined and layered into something I haven’t read before. This is a romance that is also a little bit about the community around romance, and all the many, many people who believe in it and have their fondness for it in common.
RECOMMENDED: Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price-matched. Elyse & I really enjoyed this horror/sci-fi novel. We jointly reviewed the book and ultimately decided on a B. We loved the cast of characters, but found the ending anticlimactic.
