Back when I was a little baby Elyse, still too embarrassed to check out romances from the library lest the librarian judge me, I raided my aunt’s Johanna Lindsey stash. I had just finished reading everything Kathleen Woodiwiss had ever written (which wasn’t much) and was hungering for more. My aunt was an avid romance reader and had all of Lindsey’s paperbacks lining several shelves in her basement. It was a feast of bronze-chested Fabios, … Continue reading Make Me Love You by Johanna Lindsey →
The Warlord’s Wife by Sandra Lake is a deliciously Old-Skooly historical romance set in 12th century Sweden. The hero was occasionally an alphahole, but like a lot of Old Skool heroes, it made his redemption all the more satisfying. The book opens with widow Lida being beaten and dragged in front of her father-in-law. Lida is very pregnant, which is a problem because she was only married a short time. It would be a single title, historical, probably published … Continue reading HaBO: Forced Marriage, Then Kidnapping, Then Pirates →
Bertrice Small, one of the original “Avon Ladies,” and the author of more than 50 romances, including many that hold the honored position of “the first romance I ever read” for many readers, died yesterday at the age of 77. Bertrice Small was not the first romance author I read, but I think many readers have a book of Small’s that they discovered and still remember — because if you hadn’t read books like hers … Continue reading Bertrice Small: 1937-2015 →
Earlier this month, Francesca solved Nancy’s HaBO, wherein she was looking for a fantasy romance featuring a heroine with silver hair. She was most thankful, and ordered it right away. The book turned out to be Passion Moon Rising by Rebecca Brandewyne, and after Nancy found a copy and re-read it, she wanted to share her review with y’all. We are even MORE thankful! So please welcome Nancy, and Passion Moon Rising. Sidenote: I think I might end up using Passion … Continue reading Passion Moon Rising by Rebecca Brandewyne – A Guest Review from Nancy →
