Bombshell by Sarah MacLean is $2.99! This is the first book in a new series. Elyse gave it a B-:
Objectively I can look at this book and say that some readers may have an issue with how much time spent on the girl-gang scenes versus the romance, but also ONE OF THEM SPECIALIZES IN EXPLOSIONS. I think part of this imbalance is to set up the rest of the series, but the gang’s quest for justice was very heisty and fun.
A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem by Manda Collins is $2.99! This one is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals and has new Bridgerton inspired cover. Some readers loved the balance of romance and mystery, while others wanted more excitement from the plot.
If you like immersive, action-driven fantasy and if you want a fantasy world that’s not Euro-centric–or if you just love a really, really good story–I cannot recommend The Fifth Season enough.
Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews is $2.99! I’ve heard good things about this book and it has a mix of scifi and paranormal elements, and I really don’t know why I’m dragging my feet on reading this series. Is there is a romance element to it?
I enjoyed this story a lot. It contains many of the elements that feel like a traditional Western to me – scenes of blizzards and horse-breaking, confrontations in the local saloon, slick shysters from out East come to take advantage of the locals – but the central characters buck the stereotypes in numerous ways.
I cannot emphasize enough how hungry this book will make you.
Accidentally Engaged might be my top pick for “don’t read while hungry.” Between our heroine Reena’s bread baking (there’s rye, there’s challah, there’s an ongoing battle with a sourdough starter) and her Indian and East African cooking, I was craving a feast pretty much the whole time I was reading this book.
Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is the first book in Bowen’s The Company series, which takes on a more romantic suspense feel that the Brooklyn Bruisers series. I’m not a big romantic suspense writer, but the description of a “growly hero” has be interested.
A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones is $2.99! This is the first book in a series series after Jones concluded her Charley Davidson books. Have you read this one? Are you a Jones fan?
RECOMMENDED: The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow is $3.99! This is a price-matched Kindle Daily Deal, which features some romance and cookbooks. I read this one and gave it a B+:
If you’re in the mood for a lovely, tender fantasy novel about belonging and one that feels more like a long, relaxing bath than a hot, intense shower will all of the fancy pressure and pulsating settings you can imagine, you’ll love this one. It’s a soothing pick for when you hope to take comfort in a book
The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This collection includes all three books, plus a novella. That’s almost 1500 pages for less than $3. Jemisin has won numerous awards, has been reviewed favorably on the site, and is really an amazing writer. Seriously, this is a steal.
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin is $3.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals and is being price-matched. Jemisin is a brilliant author and you should snap up any book when it’s on sale. This is a departure from Jemisin’s previous high fantasy titles and is more urban fantasy with some superhero vibes.
