Perfect Prey by Laura Salters

Perfect Prey

Perfect Prey by Laura Salters stands out from the psychological thriller crowd due to it’s excellent portrayal of a heroine with a mental illness. Like The Woman in Cabin 10, Perfect Prey depicts a heroine who is unapologetic about struggling with a mental illness (in this case generalized anxiety), who is gaslit because of it, and who perseveres even when she has to overcome the dual obstacles of physical danger and mental distress. The only … Continue reading Perfect Prey by Laura Salters

Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Kettering Incident

Featured image for Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Kettering Incident

The Kettering Incident is an eight episode mini-series full of gothic creepiness and X-Files-y appeal available for binge watching on Amazon (it’s free with Prime!). It’s the perfect show to watch while basking in late-summer early-fall AC and knitting a bunch of Conversationalist hats by Plucky Knitter. Not that I did that (I totally did that). This mini series originally premiered in Australia on Foxtel. It’s set in Tasmania, in the beautiful, dark, primeval Kettering Forest. … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Kettering Incident

The Cold Between by Elizabeth Bonesteel

The Cold Between

First of all, Elizabeth Bonesteel is either the best pen name ever or the best real name ever. It’s also the best possible hero last-name. “I’m Dirk, Dirk Bonesteel, and my boner is… steely.” Steely boners aside, The Cold Between is a blend of science fiction, mystery and romance that I found difficult to put down. It is not, however, a romance novel, so I want to warn readers looking for a guaranteed HEA to … Continue reading The Cold Between by Elizabeth Bonesteel

The Ice Twins by SK Tremayne

The Ice Twins

We are a shameful couple. Dreadful people. The worst parents of all. We lost one daughter to a fall and somehow we are losing the other. We deserve all of this. Are you intrigued yet? The Ice Twins by SK Tremayne is superbly fucking creepy. This is a book that either you’ll really love or you’ll hate passionately, and it all depends on your ability to withstand the spooky-level. We’re not talking about guts and … Continue reading The Ice Twins by SK Tremayne

Romances with Runaway Brides, U.S. Marshals, & More

Books on Sale: Take a Chance on Me by Jennifer Dawson & More

Take a Chance on Me by Jennifer Dawson is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance with a runaway bride and a bartender. It’s also the first book in the Something New series. Readers thought this was a great first book in a new series, though some found the story to be a little too cute. Anyone taking a chance on this book? (Harhar, see what I did there?)

Romance with Suspenseful Elements – and a Terrific Avon Coupon

Books on Sale: Next of Kin by Sharon Sala & More

Next of Kin by Sharon Sala is $2.99! This romantic suspense is book one in the Rebel Ridge series. The heroine is in the witness protection program, but after being discovered by the people from which she’s supposed to be hiding, she heads home to backwoods of Kentucky for safety. Many readers caution that it’s heavy on the suspense and a little lighter on the romance, but others loved the fact that the hero & heroine were childhood sweethearts, which I’m sure is catnip for some. It has a 3.9-star rating on GoodReads.

More $1.99 Romantic Suspenses Than You Could Shake a Stick At

Books on Sale: Chosen to Die by Lisa Jackson & More

Chosen to Die by Lisa Jackson is $1.99! This is the second book in the To Die series and is a mystery/romantic suspense. Admittedly, I’m always unsure how to categorize Lisa Jackson books, so any additional comments from the Bitchery would be most helpful. The description is a little intense and the content could possibly be triggering for some readers. This is also a continuation of the first book in the series, so I wouldn’t recommend trying to read this one on its own. It has a 4.1-star rating on GR.
