Readers who appreciate character-driven, slow-burn romance, flawed heroes, and a firm sense of time and place will enjoy this one despite its minor flaws.
I love a good yarn (in all senses of the word) and this book delivers a belter. This is an historical romance that feels fresh, vibrant and made me sing the Good Book Noise.
The Brass Queen by Elizabeth Chatsworth is 99c! I mentioned this on a recent Hide Your Wallet because I was very interested in the heroine. I haven’t picked it up yet, but for less than a $1, you can bet it’s going on my Kindle as soon as possible.
The book is evocative, interesting, and full of competence porn, fashion, art, and intelligent people saying intelligent things. Anyone who doesn’t mind a slow pace will love this.
If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading November’s New Releases, Part One→
RECOMMENDED: This Side of Murder by Anna Lee Huber is $2.99! Sarah has been a huge fan of Huber’s historical mysteries and had this to say:
If you like smart, clever, extremely competent women sleuths with a handful of secrets and a crap ton of inner resilience this is a terrific start to a mystery series. Good for fans of Huber’s other series, and of historical mysteries.
RECOMMENDED: Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse is $1.99! I bought the book at full price and immediately preordered the second one upon finishing. You can find my review here:
It’s steeped in mythology, badassery, and lots and lots of violence. If you’re sensitive to graphic, gritty details, this book is not for you.
The Winter Companion by Mimi Matthews is 99c at Amazon! It’s available elsewhere for $3.99, so this deal could be ending pretty quickly. Claudia is a fan of this series and this is the most recent release (out in February). I’m relatively certain they can be read out of order, though chime in if I’m wrong.
Happy Wednesday! How are you all today? Both Sarah and I are in a bit of a funk and insist there is something more than humidity in the air today. Are you also feeling it too? On the bright side, I did a wild thing the other day. I read! Until 2am! I can’t remember the last time that happened. … I’ve been having a rough few weeks and Carrie has been sending my funny … Continue reading Links: Events, Dedications, & More→
Skinwalker by Faith Hunter is $1.99! This is a price-matched Kindle Daily Deal! It’s the first book in the urban fantasy Jane Yellowrock series. Reviewers commented that this definitely suffers from “first book-itis,” where a bulk of the book deals with worldbuilding, but the action really picks up during the last half of the book.
