Welcome back, everyone! We have reached eighty editions of Get Rec’d! Can you believe it? This is the last one before the new year and leans more toward non-fiction. I feel like this is the place where I get to pass along all the non-romance recommendations I keep in my back pocket. Did you get any good recommendations lately? Do you have a favorite recommendation of the year?
The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta $2.99! I mentioned this one on a previous Get Rec’d for hardcover romance readers, though now it’s out in paperback. Lots of tropes here – fake dating, celebrities, and friends to lovers
A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in her Reluctant Royals series and this seems to be a series that just keeps getting better with its books. Many readers loved how Alyssa writes consent, agency, and all sorts of other awesome and empowering things. However, some warn that this book takes several chapters to get into the swing of things.
RECOMMENDED: Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor is 99c! Redheadedgirl read this one and gave it a B:
If you’re a fan of Connie Willis, I would suggest you give this series a try. It doesn’t take itself quite so seriously, and Max as a heroine and audience surrogate is a lot of fun. It’s potentially a commitment, given that there are 9 books and a bunch of novellas, but I’m looking forward to making a dent in my TBR pile to read the next book.
This Earl of Mine by Kate Bateman is $2.99! This is the first book in a rather new historical romance series. I gave this one a B-, because while the leads were great together, there were a lot of other distracting plot threads. Elyse loved the second one and I would definitely recommend the series, despite my quibbles.
