Never a Bride by Megan Frampton is $1.99! This is part of the Duke’s Daughters series and features a fake engagement. Readers recommend Frampton’s writing style, but found this one to be light on historical believability. Have you read this one?

Welcome to Lit Wicks! This is where we pair an author’s backlist with candles to really immerse yourself in the reading experience. All of the candles featured in these post are from Etsy, which means there is often worldwide shipping and that you’re supporting independent crafters and sellers. The Etsy candle rabbit hole is one I have gone down many times. Because the end of the year is all about the holidays and celebrating with … Continue reading Lit Wicks: Recommended Holiday Romances →

How to Forget a Duke by Vivienne Lorret is $1.99! This is the first book in the Misadventures in Matchmaking series, and Elyse gave this one a B grade:
How to Forget a Duke is a delightfully tropey Regency featuring a hero who goes from loveable curmudgeon to joyfully in love. So how tropey is it, you ask? We’ve got enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, matchmaking, and–hell yeah–amnesia. All of it works, and honestly, this romance is just so fun that it made my day.

RECOMMENDED: Vicious by V.E. Schwab is $2.99! Though I have not read this, several of my friends (four to be exact, two of whom have rated it five starts on Goodreads) have and absolutely loved it. With rivalries, super powers, and experiments gone wrong, Vicious has been compared to being a literary comic book. It’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which also include a couple romances.

On the Edge by Ilona Andrews is 99c at Amazon and $2.99 elsewhere! This is the first book in The Edge urban fantasy series and, I think, it’s the only series I haven’t read by Andrews. As usual for Andrews, the worldbuilding is great, though some readers said it took them longer to connect with the characters than in Andrews other series.

Update: Deal no longer valid.
The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen by Victoria Alexander is 99c! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price matched. Readers were really into the plot, but mention that it takes a while to really get going. Have you read this one?

RECOMMENDED: My Fair Duchess by Megan Frampton is $3.99! This is the fifth book in the Dukes Behaving Badly series. Several of Frampton’s titles are on sale for $3.99 or less!
Redheadedgirl gave it a B+:
The ending is a bit rushed, but that happens a lot. And the resolution of the Big Misunderstanding and the complications that are keeping Genevieve and Archie apart is pretty simple, in the end. That said, I enjoyed this SO MUCH. “Learning how to figure your shit out” stories are a particular favorite of mine at this point in my life, and this was a great read.

The Wedding Pact by Katee Robert is $2.99! This is the second book in the O’Malley series and does feature a mafia family. It’s a contemporary romance with an arranged marriage and I even made a yummy cocktail for it! Some readers recommend reading the previous book (also on sale!) to get a full understanding of the family dynamics. But others loved the Romeo & Juliet vibe of the romance.

The difficulty of playing with the Pygmalion/My Fair Lady trope is that in its original form, it’s inherently mean. Making bets on whether you can change a person to pass for gentry, even if the author is doing it to make fun of the ridiculousness of the British class system, is still making someone the butt of a joke. Happily, Frampton seems to understand this, and made a conscious choice not to make anyone the … Continue reading My Fair Duchess by Megan Frampton →

We have our first crop of Lightning Reviews of 2017! Are you ready?! First up is Hidden Figures, the book on which the recent movie is based. We also some have historical fiction set in Ireland and a holiday Regency romance novella!
No Groom at the Inn is a delightful holiday Regency novella. It’s like the perfect little macaron–a pop of sweetness, but not so much that your teeth ache. Lady Sophronia Bettesford is the impoverished daughter of a recently deceased earl. With no money and no prospects, she’s looking to family for support–which means moving in with a cousin to help raise said cousin’s six children and twenty-seven chickens. I honestly would prefer the chickens to the children. … Continue reading No Groom at the Inn by Megan Frampton →
