A Spy in the Struggle by Aya de León is $1.99! This was a previous Hide Your Wallet pick from Maya and was released late in December. This is a crime novel with some California noir vibes. I also remember it making several end of the year book lists.
Sonali Dev is an amazing creator of character and I suspect that this book with be A grade stuff for many readers. I enjoyed the conversations around class, race, and disability (in Emma’s case). However, the book left me stressed out instead of happy
Taming the Legend by Kat Latham is 99c! This is the fourth book in the London Legends series, which features rugby playing heroes. A few more of them are on sale. This one has a second chance romance, and the third book is also on sale. I enjoyed this series, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read it.
Crossing Hearts by Kimberly Kincaid is 99c at Amazon! This is a small town contemporary romance and the first in a series. The second book is also on sale. Readers loved the hero in this one, but felt the book could have been cut down by about fifty pages.
Pretty Face by Lucy Parker is $3.99! This is the second book in a series, the first book we featured a couple weeks ago. Sarah read this one and though she didn’t squee over it as much as she did with Act Like It by Lucy Parker, the book still earned a B:
The theme of this book, of choosing difficult happiness and fulfillment over worrying what people will say about your choices, is a terrific, nuanced one for a romance. Richard summarizing the meaning of that theme while talking about stage performance was one of the best parts of the book for me.
It Started with a Kiss by Marina Adair is $1.99 at Amazon! This contemporary romance with small town elements and is the first book in the Sequoia Lake series. Readers loved the outdoorsy heroine, though some felt they were bored with the romance. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this?
RECOMMENDED: Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren is $2.99! Lauren’s books rarely go on sale, so grab this one while you can. I loved this book and gave it an A-:
If you want the book-form of a great, contemporary rom-com, Dating You/Hating You will scratch that itch. No, not just scratch it. Massage it. A full body, deep-tissue Swedish massage that will leave your bones feeling like jelly, where all you can do is close your eyes and let out a deep, satisfying sigh.
I had such a good old time reading this book. There were some flaws to the plot but while reading it, I was charmed and giggly and totally absorbed. This book made me happy. That’s probably the best way to put it: it made me smile. A lot. Books like this are why I read romance.
READER RECOMMENDED: Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey is $2.99! This is a highly recommended fantasy novel and we have a great guest squee from a reader named Betty:
This book was the first of a trilogy and there is a damn good reason the series is listed among the best of its genre. It is like Lord of the Ringswith anal sex. It is like The Wheel of Time with BDSM. It is like The Wizard of Earthsea with un-emphasized and natural bisexuality. It was Game of Thrones with less incest and more consensual sex.
Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey is $1.99! This is the first book in The Bourbon Street Boys series and all the other books are discounted as well. Readers recommended this for fans of romantic comedy contemporaries. However, others felt the amount of comedy bordered on immature.
