The Proposal by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in her Survivor’s Club series, which is a favorite amongst the Bitchery. Readers loved the hero, Hugo, but I will admit I’ve never read a Balogh that I wasn’t “meh” about. Balogh fans, what do you love about her books?
Twice Bitten by Lynsay Sands is $1.99! This book came out earlier this year and is book twenty-seven in the Argeneau series. This book can be read as its own. Some readers say there’s more serious elements than they’re used to in this series. However, others say that Sands does a good job blending humor and romance.
If A Lady in Disguise is ever made into a movie, and it does not star Carole Lombard, I’ll be very disappointed. True, Lombard died in 1942, but why must we quibble over such small details? The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey is $1.99! This is a mystery set in 1920s Bombay. Carrie read this one and gave it a B:
It’s not a romance. Romance does not go well for the main characters. However, it’s a very good female-centered historical mystery.
RECOMMENDED: The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is the first book in the Girl Meets Duke series. Elyse really loved this book and gave it an A grade:
I totally recommend reading The Duchess Deal, but preferably while sober so you can really appreciate all of it. It’s the perfect blend of two of my favorite fairytale tropes, it’s got a hero who never an alpha-hole, it’s funny, and it’s got female friendship. What more could you want?
RECOMMENDED: Once Upon a Marquess by Courtney Milan is 99c! This is book one in the Worth Saga and I think SBTB has reviewed nearly every recent Milan release. RHG and Carrie did a joint review of this one. It earned an A grade and there was a lot of squeeing.
Enchanted by Alethea Kontis is $1.99! This is a YA, fairy tale-inspired book and it’s the first in the Woodcutter Sisters series. Carrie reviewed the book previously and gave it a B+:
There’s a lot of mutual saving in this book and interestingly they mostly work together to save other people, not each other. I like this couple, I like the story, and I’m even more excited to read the next book, Hero. Each story is supposed to work as a stand alone with a shared work and some shared characters, so I’m excited. I don’t think this book is perfect (it’s really busy and rushed) and I don’t think it’s for everyone (melodrama) but I do think that Alethea has earned her tiara.
Filthy and Rich is $2.99! This is a boxed set five novellas featuring menage romances and billionaires. One of the stories also has a female construction worker! This set just came out (as in today), so there aren’t any reviews to pull opinions from. Not gonna lie, I’m pretty interested in this set. It seems like it’d be a quick and steamy read.
