Hide Your Wallet

August 2021 New Releases, Part Two

If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading August 2021 New Releases, Part Two

Soggy Bottoms: Biscuits with the Boss

Soggy Bottoms - a Bookish Journey through Technical Bakes with a floury spoon, a rolling pin, and eggshells on a slate background

Like many people and most notably Heather T., who wrote a guest post recently about why you should definitely be watching Ted Lasso, I am so ready for season two to begin this week (July 23rd). To prepare, I’ve decided to make shortbread, which is a recurring food in the show. Ted concocts this routine called “biscuits with the boss.” It’s a way for him to debrief and go over things with Richmond’s owner Rebecca. She’s … Continue reading Soggy Bottoms: Biscuits with the Boss

Books on Sale: The Silence of Bones by June Hur & More

RECOMMENDED: The Silence of Bones by June Hur is $2.99! Ellen reviewed this one in September and gave it an A:

I thought this book was amazing. I loved the prose, the characters, the mystery, and the setting. From a craft perspective I found this book masterful, and it took me on an intense emotional journey. I think this is a literal must-read for historical mystery fans provided they do not mind some violence.

Cover Awe: Colors, Sparkles, & Joy

Featured image for Cover Awe: Colors, Sparkles, & Joy

I like to think Cover Awe as a moment of zen, where we can all take a collective break to look at pretty things. Art by Serena Maylon Design by Michael McCartney Susan: Oh that is BEAUTIFUL. Sneezy: *Heart eyes* Amanda: Well hi there. Elyse: I love all those colors. Sarah: I wish some of my dreams looked more like that. Carrie: That list of authors…my heart… Sneezy: It’s like if you open the book, … Continue reading Cover Awe: Colors, Sparkles, & Joy

Books on Sale: A Wedding One Christmas by Therese Beharrie & More

A Wedding One Christmas by Therese Beharrie is $1.99! I believe today is the last day to get this sale, so grab it while you can. Lots of tropes here: holiday romance, fake relationships, and it takes place mostly in the span of 24-hours. Have you read this one?

Books on Sale: Pretty Face by Lucy Parker & More

Pretty Face by Lucy Parker is $3.99! This is the second book in a series, the first book we featured a couple weeks ago. Sarah read this one and though she didn’t squee over it as much as she did with Act Like It by Lucy Parker, the book still earned a B:

The theme of this book, of choosing difficult happiness and fulfillment over worrying what people will say about your choices, is a terrific, nuanced one for a romance. Richard summarizing the meaning of that theme while talking about stage performance was one of the best parts of the book for me.

Headliners by Lucy Parker

Headliners

Shout out to Maya who shared her expertise on racialization and approved of Megxit Ranger! Thanks, Maya!!!! Headliners is the fifth book in Lucy Parker’s London Celebrity series, and it is not an exaggeration to say that I have been a squatting like a goblin in the corner, waiting to pounce on this book. I LOVE Parker’s style, and it’s absolutely worth picking this book up for her snark and wit alone. All the books … Continue reading Headliners by Lucy Parker

Hide Your Wallet

January’s New Releases, Part Two

In case you missed it: I know last Hide Your Wallet we instituted some changes. Well now we have more, thanks to the comment left by Katie C. A lot of you expressed wanting to keep the wide breadth of new releases and Katie’s suggestion was pretty great. We’re still keeping our book maximums (five per person), but have added an extra HYW post per month, allowing another five books per person. The first HYW … Continue reading January’s New Releases, Part Two
