I’ve heard good things about this book and it has a mix of scifi and paranormal elements, and I really don’t know why I’m dragging my feet on reading this series. Indiscreet by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in the Horseman Trilogy. The third book in the trilogy, Irresistible, is on sale for $1.99! Readers call this a “fluffy Regency” and found the romance to be pretty darn sweet. However, some found the romance a bit slow going at times. This is also a rerelease, as the original book was published in 1997.
Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat is $1.99! This is book one in the extremely popular Captive Prince trilogy, which is a gay romance with royalty, intrigue, and fantasy elements. Many people I know (including my roommate) have loved this series, but there are a few reviews on Goodreads where the readers said they were bored. Have you read this?

This book has a 3.8-star average, and readers who liked it say the whole series is terrific. However, some didn’t enjoy the characters as much as the ones in the first book.
I read Beyond Scandal and Desire while I was on vacation, and while it may have worked really well for me five years ago, current Elyse is really frustrated with heroes who use the heroine as a device for their revenge. I had a raging head cold and cough when I read Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare. I think under normal circumstances it might have ventured into “too cute” territory for me, but since I was feeling like absolute crap, it was just what the doctor ordered.

I love Tessa Dare. I’ve read a lot of her books and loved them all. Years ago when I first picked up one of her books, she quickly went from the standard ‘author I would read if I like the tropes’ to ‘author I trust to make the tropes I don’t like work.’
Which is why I was so surprised when I found this book kind of…meh.
It’s not a bad book. I’ve certainly read worse. But I found that not a lot happened, the pacing was a bit off, and I just feel more inclined to be nitpicky about it rather than forgive its flaws.
