Shelly Laurenston, Plus Recommended Historical Romances!

Books on Sale: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston & More

RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Yeah, you’re reading that right. If you were at RT, I squeed about this so hard, so thanks to everyone who told us about this sale. And I did a little drive by squee during a review for the second book, The Undoing:

Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)

Books on Sale: Don’t Tempt Me by Loretta Chase & More

Don’t Tempt Me by Loretta Chase is $1.99! This is a historical romance, which Candy reviewed waaaay back in 2009. She gave it a B:

I think I can sum up the problems with this book thusly: it needed about 40 more pages, or about 20,000 more words. The book was tasty, but it was insubstantial, and it killed me that it could’ve been so much more—could’ve been GREAT, in fact, one of Chase’s best; as good as her best work so far, or even better. It could’ve been Chanel No. 5, and it ended up being yet another cheap body splash.

However, in Which One First post, Reader Ellielu advises against the book:

The writing felt hurried, the heroine made me cringe, and the married-to-a-sultan-but-still-conveniently-a-virgin-with-ridiculous-amounts-of-theoretical-knowledge-about-sex trope required more disbelief than I was willing to suspend.

Dukes, Dukes, & More Dukes!

Books on Sale: Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase & More

RECOMMENDED: Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase is $3.99! This is a relatively recent release that Carrie read and gave it a B. Overall, she enjoyed it, but thought it suffered from too much plot:

Dukes Prefer Blondes is a book with irresistible characters, a great plot, and tons of witty banter. Y’all know how dearly I love a battle of wits, and this couple just never slows down on the battlefront. It would be A+ material if not for the extremely odd construction. It feels like this book is one draft short of finished, and also like it’s two books crammed into one.

Books on Sale: Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase & More

Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase is $1.99! This book was nominated for a RITA® and our two RITA® Reader Challenge reviewers liked it. Julie gave it an A-: “

I really enjoyed this book. Marcelline and her sisters play pre-Victorian Era hardball with their business competitors and the duke. She’s surviving in a man’s world by her wits and her determination.

And Milena also gave it an A-:

I loved Marcelline to bits. She’s a businesswoman, and her work is not just a decoration she’s ready to drop at the first twitch of a duke’s eyebrows. She loves it – all of the fabulous dress designs the Noirot sisters produce are hers – and she doesn’t want to abandon it, even in exchange for a life of luxury.

Recapping June’s Best Deals So Far: Historicals

Books on Sale: It Started with a Scandal by Julie Anne Long & More

It Started With a Scandal by Julie Anne Long is still $1.99. This is book 10 in the Pennyroyal Green series, which is a superb historical series that mixes small town dynamics with the Regency – and two feuding families that like to score points off one another.

This book came out in March 2015, so I think this is the first time it’s been on sale. It has a 4+ star average on GR, too. I’ve read this series out of order and been fine, but hey, the whole series is pretty spiffy, and the previous 9 books before this on are available on Scribd!

The Devil’s Delilah by Loretta Chase

The Devil’s Delilah

After reading a write-up of the awesomeness that is Jack Langdon written by @ActuallyAisha, I bought and read The Devil’s Delilah, despite having a LOT on my reading list for this month and despite not having much time to get it all done. Y’all, I am so glad I made time for this book. It’s wonderful. The Devil’s Delilah is a traditional Regency – have a look at the old cover on the right to … Continue reading The Devil’s Delilah by Loretta Chase
