Cover Awe: Celebrity Sightings, Re-Release Covers, & More

How I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming. An illustrated cover of a curvy Black woman holding a flagon of mead. She's has a pink, curly bob and is wearing a white peasant blouse. She's embraced by a man with tan skin and long dark hair. He has pointed ears and black horns that emerge from his forehead. His green shirt is unbuttoned and bunched around his elbows. He's holding her chin in his hands as light blue leaves and petals swirl around them.

Welcome back to Cover Awe! Elyse: Okay so the stairs would be digging into her back, but I love how different this cover is in terms of composition and color. Claudia: Beautiful!! Amanda: It gives me the feeling of it’s just the two of them hanging out after everyone has cleared out following a party. Sarah: That is a very relaxed and intimate image. I agree, it’s like they’re both thinking, “FINALLY everyone is gone. … Continue reading Cover Awe: Celebrity Sightings, Re-Release Covers, & More

Fantasy Romance & a Freebie

Books on Sale: The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon & More

The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon is $1.99! I’m unsure if this is a leftover Kindle Daily Deal from yesterday. Catherine read this one and gave it a B-:

There was some lovely writing, some fantastic banter, and I really did like Shay and Dominic together. They had terrific chemistry and the sort of teasing relationship that makes me very happy, because it means there is a firm foundation of friendship underneath the romance.

Books on Sale: The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George & More

RECOMMENDED: The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is $1.99! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this one! This is book two in The Gilded Heiresses series and Elyse gave it an A-:

The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is a tropey historical romance with light conflict. It worked totally for me, but lately I’ve needed less darkness and fewer obstacles for the main characters to overcome in my reading.

Books on Sale: My Sweet Folly by Laura Kinsale & More

My Sweet Folly by Laura Kinsale is $2.99! This book sounds absolutely bananas. Readers really loved the heroine and how witty she was. However, given the bananas quality of the book, some said the pacing is a bit all over the place. Have you read this one?

Books on Sale: The Lord I Left by Scarlett Peckham & More

RECOMMENDED: The Lord I Left by Scarlett Peckham is 99c! Thanks for everyone who let us know about this sale. I believe it’s best to read this series in order, rather than as standalones. Claudia gave this one a B+:

There was a lot to like and enjoy: plenty of funny and tender moments, thoughtful discussions, and some of my favorite setups in romance, including an “one room at the inn” scenario.

Books on Sale: Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher & More

RECOMMENDED: Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher is $1.99 at Amazon! AJ loved this one and gave it an A:

All of that is to say: if you stare at walls a lot right now and you can’t really read because everything is just too much all the time? You’re not alone. I get you. And if you want to try a book that gets it too, and will remind you that there can be light at the end of this god-awful tunnel, maybe try this one.

Books on Sale: The Other Daughter by Lauren Willig & More

RECOMMENDEDThe Other Daughter by Lauren Willig is $2.99! This is historical fiction with romantic elements and Redheadedgirl gave it an A:

I like Willig’s writing a lot. It’s not complex; it’s kind of like the hot chocolate of prose. It’s smooth, and it’s classic. That may sound kind of like damning with faint praise, which I’m really not trying to do. There are times when what I want is smooth prose without a lot of flourishes, and Willig always delivers.

Books on Sale: Puddin’ by Julie Murphy & More

Puddin’ by Julie Murphy is $1.99! Not sure if this is a Kindle Daily Deal. I didn’t see it on the list today, but I may have missed it. This is a companion novel to Dumplin’ though it’s not necessary to read that one to enjoy this one. Just be warned that the ending to Dumplin’ might get spoiled. I loved Dumplin’ and am excited to read this one. Murphy has a great way of writing really likable characters.

Books on Sale: The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett & More

RECOMMENDED: The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals; be sure to check out the rest of them! This is the first book in the much loved Discworld series. There’s magic and lots of quirky humor, though admittedly, the series isn’t for everyone. So don’t worry if you give it a shot and it’s not for you. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
