My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones is $5.99! This is a little more expensive than our deals but seeing as how this book released slightly over a month ago and the library holds are probably pretty long, this could fit within a reader’s budget.

RECOMMENDED: Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, and I recommend checking them out today since there are a lot of great cookbooks included, like Ottolenghi’s Flavor. Ellen read this one and gave it a B+:
I think it has elements to satisfy a wide reading audience: a sizzling slow-burn romance between people with actual significant obstacles to their relationship, a sweeping and epic plot about the rise and fall of empires, gut-wrenching internal character conflict, and wacky space hijinks.

RECOMMENDED: Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! I listened to this on audio after Elyse’s great review and loved it. I’ve since listened to the next two Maiden Lane books on audio as well. Elyse really enjoyed this book and gave it an A-.

Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai is $3.99! I know some of you yesterday expressed frustration that this is already on sale after you paid full price. I completely agree with you and I think it turns readers off from buying books during release week, which is when sales are most important. BUT THAT IS A DISCUSSION FOR ANOTHER TIME!
Maya wrote a great review for this one and gave it a B-:
If you can handle some angst, some systemic oppression, and a distinct lack of totally justified vengeance, check out this slow burn romance between two damaged, but kind people of color who desire only each other and the safety of anonymity.

RECOMMENDED: Rebel by Beverly Jenkins is $1.99! Claudia wrote a guest review for this one before coming onboard. She gave it a B+:
One of the greatest joys of reading this book was seeing Val reconnecting with her inner hellion, and starting to believe she too could experience a great love.

This guest review was written by Crystal Anne With An E. Crystal reads a lot, cross-stitches, and is an autism consultant by day and goes to library school by night. She is a Hufflepuff, because honey badgers don’t give a shit. Crystal Anne also reviewed Slayer, the first book in this duology. … Well, folks, guess who’s back, back again. It seemed unfair to review the first in Kiersten White’s Slayer series and not hit … Continue reading Guest Review: Chosen by Kiersten White →

We have a whole new batch of new releases to discuss. And by “batch,” I mean over forty! We also have two books with the same title released this month, which I thought was kind of neat. I think we’ve name-checked all the big releases; I couldn’t think of anything we left off. If we did, please chime in below. What November books are on your to-read list?

London’s Best Kept Secret by Anabelle Bryant is $1.99! This historical romance is the second book in the Midnight Secrets series and can we get a ruling on whether that’s a mullet on the cover? The hero and heroine are already married in this one, but some readers couldn’t get past the hero’s scheming.

NB: We have a suspicion that many of the Bitchery are Buffy fans, which means this squee is in good company. This review from Crystal Anne With An E was originally graded “A with Extra Squee Because Buffy,” but we felt bumping up up to a full on squee was fair. Crystal reads a lot, cross-stitches, and is an autism consultant by day and goes to library school by night. She is a Hufflepuff. … … Continue reading Guest Squee: Slayer by Kiersten White →

Hide that wallet because we’re discussing new books coming out this month! Listed below are some picks from the SBTB crew, but we also know there are several others books that you may have preordered or put on hold at your library. What are you excited for this month? More Cormoran Strike books are out with Lethal White . Vengeful by V.E. Schwab has been highly anticipated by many of my friends. If you love contemporary YA books, … Continue reading September’s New Releases →

RECOMMENDED: Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn is $1.99! This is the first book in the Heroine Complex series and it’s one that Carrie loves. She reviewed this one and gave it a B+:
You usually can’t judge a book by it’s cover, but honestly you can totally judge this book by its cover, which features two Asian heroines with obviously different personalities, a demonic cupcake (can’t get enough of those) and bright colors. If that cover causes grabby hand syndrome, then yes, you will adore the book.
