Welcome back to Cover Awe! There’s something slightly new in how we do Cover Awe – the title will be bolded with a link to its SBTB info page where you can find buy links to several retailers. Primal Mirror by Nalini Singh Cover art by Tony Mauro Sarah: I think this is really alluring. Lucy Undying by Kiersten White is $1.99! Thanks for everyone who let us know about this sale; fingers crossed it carries through the week. I thought Carrie reviewed this one, but perhaps she mentioned it on Whatcha Reading or something.
Tall, Duke, and Scandalous by Amy Rose Bennett is $1.99! This is book three in the Byronic Book Club series. There’s a marriage of convenience and a hint of mystery.
For our favorite reads, we had to choose one favorite read of 2024, but everyone is allowed two bonus picks for books not released this year. However, Sarah is ever the rulebreaker and her picks are all from this year! Here are our favorites of the year! We’d also love to hear about your best read of 2024!
Bridgerton Collection: Volume 1 by Julia Quinn is $1.99! You get three full-length historical romances and these collections, when not on sale, are priced at $19.99. Not a bad deal!
Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the September 10th release week. Not a bad crop of new books. Arya mentioned that Alice Coldbreath has a new book out, slated for Monday, but as of writing this there are no links up yet. If we can, we’ll include it next week! Which books are you excited for? Let us know in the comments!
John Eyre by Mimi Matthews is $2.99! This is a retelling of the Bronte classic and has similar elements of a Gothic historical romance. Have you read this one? Carrie read it and gave it a C+ in a Lightning Review.
It’s Tuesday, which means new books! This is one of our busier release weeks amongst the staff. We have lots of variety in this one. There are historical romances, contemporaries, fantasy, and horror. What books are on your TBR pile? Any overlap with ours?
I think it has elements to satisfy a wide reading audience: a sizzling slow-burn romance between people with actual significant obstacles to their relationship, a sweeping and epic plot about the rise and fall of empires, gut-wrenching internal character conflict, and wacky space hijinks.
It is such a perfectly balanced book, too. It doesn’t just skim over the surface of difficult things, but it also doesn’t drag you down into the depths of grief, either. I loved that it is such a light, funny, hot read, but also a story that invites reflection.
The Beautiful Ones is a book that includes many genres, including fantasy, romance, manners, and just a little bit of Gothic. I enjoyed it more as a soap opera than a romance, but your mileage will vary depending on your interpretation of the characters.
