Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this deal! They also warned it could be a Kindle Daily Deal over from yesterday, so my apologies if it’s gone. We mentioned this on on Cover Awe, as well.

RECOMMENDED: The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows by Olivia Waite is $1.99! Carrie and Tara wrote a joint review and gave this one a B+:
This book does a lot of things right. The character work is deep and brilliant, the historical context is plentiful and guides readers along even if they know nothing, and the writing is so beautifully done. Like I mentioned above, the overall pace of the story didn’t bother me, just the pace of the romance. If that would have been sped up, this would be a near perfect book for me. I still recommend it, but you need to go into this expecting the slowest of slow burns.

RECOMMENDED: Miss Aldridge Regrets by Louise Hare is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this deal. Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B:
Ultimately this mystery is weak on the actual mystery front. However, the description of an entertainer’s life in Soho and a passenger’s life on the Queen Mary is fascinating, and while Lena is an interesting person who always seems to be either doing or listening to or watching interesting things. On those levels, I really liked this book, and recommend it for fans of that time period.

RECOMMENDED: The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal is $2.99! Carrie read this one and gave it a B grade:
Even though at first I found this book to be slow going, I came to appreciate it for its intersectional feminism and its unabashed adoration of all the science and math that goes into making space flight possible.

RECOMMENDED: A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas is $2.99! Both Sarah and Carrie read this book and enjoyed it.
Sarah gave it a B+: I haven’t shut up about this book since I finished it. My outbound text messages are mostly hollering, squeeing, and long strings of vowels about this book.
I’m so excited this book exists. I’m so excited that I got to read it. I’m so excited there will be more.
Carrie gave it B: I can’t WAIT to find out what Charlotte, Livia, and Mrs. Watson are up to. I hope it involves them being protective of each other, empowering, and smart. The excitement is palpable!

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire is $2.99! I started this series this year and have read the first two books. The writing is so beautiful and I would happily send 300+ pages in the world McGuire has created. However, I will warn that these books have a haunting sadness to them and as romance readers, the HEAs we love aren’t the HEAs the characters want. (If that makes any sense without spoiling.)

How the hell is it July already? It’s not a bad month for new books, though the bulk of these releases comes from Elyse. Obviously, she’s going to have a fantastic month. Here are a few other books that might be on your radar: Kiersten White continues her Conqueror’s Saga with Bright We Burn . Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers is out this month and is part of a highly recommended space opera series. Penny Reid has … Continue reading July’s New Releases →

RECOMMENDED: Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning is $2.99! This is the first book in the Fever series. I’ve read the entire first part of the series, though I did not go on to read Iced. In my opinion, the series starts out great, though the last book wasn’t as satisfying as I’d hoped it would be. Many readers felt the setting was one of the strongest things about the story, but a few couldn’t get on board with the heroine, MacKayla. It has a 4.1-star rating on GR.
