Welcome to Book Beat! Book Beat aims to highlight other books that we may hear about through friends, social media, or other sources. We could see a gorgeous ad! Or find a new-to-us author on a list of underrated romances! Think of Book Beat as Teen Beat or Tiger Beat, but for books. And no staples to open to get the fold-out poster.

Moonshadow by Thea Harrison is 99c! This is the first book in the Moonshadow series. This book was mentioned in December 2016’s Hide Your Wallet. I bought this one and tried reading it, but I couldn’t seem to get into it. In fairness, I was getting my hair done at the time. Have you read this one?

If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading November’s New Releases, Part Two →
With its brooding hero, numerous ghosts, a charming-yet-haunted old house, multiple historical murder mysteries, and the beautiful but dangerous moors of England, A Stitch in Time was a fun and engaging book to start out my spooky season reading. Was it somewhat derivative and convoluted? Yes. But it was also delightfully atmospheric and endearingly quirky in its delivery of a number of gothic and paranormal romance tropes. It sort of reminded me of Crimson Peak … Continue reading A Stitch In Time by Kelley Armstrong →

The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is $1.99! This is the third book in the Rokesbys series and also described as a Bridgertons prequel. However, readers say this works fine as a standalone. RECOMMENDED: Omens by Kelley Armstrong is $1.99! Shoutout to Katie for letting me know about this one because I just finished this book very recently! This is the first book in a finished urban fantasy series and for the most part, I really liked it. It dragged in some spots, but I loved how I didn’t get all the answers about the mysterious Cainesville in the first book.

RECOMMENDED: The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals; be sure to check out the rest of them! This is the first book in the much loved Discworld series. There’s magic and lots of quirky humor, though admittedly, the series isn’t for everyone. So don’t worry if you give it a shot and it’s not for you. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is the eighth book in The Arcane Society series and book two in the spin-off Dreamlight Trilogy, which makes me unsure if this can be read as a standalone. Let us know in the comments! Some readers felt the hero was too much of a jerk, while others loved the heroine and paranormal elements.

RECOMMENDED: Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness is $1.99! Ness is an amazing author and my roommate swears by his books. This is the third and final book in the Chaos Walking trilogy and it’s definitely a series you have to read in order. But in case you’ve been waiting for this one, now’s your chance to grab it. As with any end to a series, some people loved the conclusion and some didn’t. However, it has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads, which is pretty impressive.
