Overall, this is a fun screwball comedy. I really enjoyed the representation of a Chickasaw woman and the barriers she faces to improving her life. As exasperated as I constantly was with Ember, I wanted her to thrive as the smart, hard-working woman that she clearly is, and for the most part I was happy with how her story was resolved.
RECOMMENDED: Diablo Lake: Moonstruck by Lauren Dane is $1.99! Sarah reviewed this one and thought it was a great start to the series. Here are some of her thoughts:
This paranormal small Southern town of shifters and witches and rival pack tensions between the Dooleys and Pembrys is immersively fun, sexy, and thoughtful. Bonus points: witches AND vivid, loving female friendships.
Wait for It by Mariana Zapata is $2.99! Zapata is an autobuy author for many of you and the book has an impressive 4.3-star rating on Goodreads. Though the heroine has ties to a character in one of Zapata’s previous books, it can be read as a standalone. For any Zapata fans out there, how did this book rate compared to her other romances?
An Improper Arrangement by Kasey Michaels is $1.99! This is the first book in The Little Season series and features a romance between an American heiress and her chaperone in London. Readers warn that the book starts slowly, but many loved the banter between the hero and heroine.
To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt is 99c! This is book one in the Legend of the Four Soldiers series and was mentioned in a Rec League on Historical Romance House Parties. Readers warn that the beginning is a little slow, but if you’re looking to fully collect all of Hoyt’s romances, 99c is a good price!
RECOMMENDED: The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan is $3.99! This is also Kindle Daily Deal. Elyse and Redheadedgirl did a joint review of this book and they gave it an A:
RHG: So I’m giving this an A, because it was delightful and I adore the Fug Girls’ version of Harry and Kate and Wills that they’ve created in their heads. It also passed the “Did I stay up until 3 am to finish this? YES I DID” test. How about you?
Elyse: Totally an A. It wasn’t as heavy in the romance as I wanted but made up for it by being addictive. I too pulled the 3 a.m. read. Plus it’s really funny and heartfelt.
A Scandalous Proposal by Kasey Michaels is $1.99! This is a historical romance and the second book in The Little Season series. Readers recommend this one for a silly and light romance, while others mentioned they didn’t care for the hero and heroine’s frequent sexual fraternizing.
One and Only by Jenny Holiday is $1.99! This is the first book in the Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series. I found the book to be pretty cute and the heroine is an adorable nerd. However, the heroine is described as being a little unhappy with her weight and trying to lose some before her friend’s wedding. But in the book’s description, she seems like the average dress size for an American woman and the cover model is thinner than what I was expecting.
A Devil in Scotland by Suzanna Enoch is $2.99! This is the third book in the No Ordinary Men series and has elements of a forbidden, off limits romance. I really love the color palette of this cover, even if it looks like everything is on fire. This book has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison is 99c! This is book one in The Hollows series, which is urban fantasy with a fierce heroine and a lot of opportunities for asskicking. It has a 4+-star average on GoodReads, and is frequently mentioned when readers talk about which urban fantasy series to try next. However, if memory serves me right, I couldn’t get into it myself.
His Wicked Reputation by Madeline Hunter is $2.99! This is the first book in her Wicked Trilogy and involves a hero and heroine with a very antagonistic relationship, which many readers loved. However, some readers mentioned there was more telling than showing. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
