Puddin’ by Julie Murphy is $1.99! Not sure if this is a Kindle Daily Deal. I didn’t see it on the list today, but I may have missed it. This is a companion novel to Dumplin’ though it’s not necessary to read that one to enjoy this one. Just be warned that the ending to Dumplin’ might get spoiled. I loved Dumplin’ and am excited to read this one. Murphy has a great way of writing really likable characters.
Good afternoon! It’s that time again: links time! I’m in a strange mood this Wednesday. It’s the year anniversary of my grandmother’s death and I have a lot of unresolved feelings. Very thankful I have a therapy appointment today and a book order came in at my local bookstore. … Sil of The Book Voyagers is at Frolic.Media discussing things to avoid when writing Latinx characters in romance. READER RECOMMENDED: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee is $2.99! I’ve lost count of the number of people who have enjoyed this book. We even ran a great guest review of it, where it earned an A- grade:
This book is touching, sexy, witty, and a fun adventure story. It would be an awesome beachside or poolside read. It takes its history seriously, but also lightly.
The Widow by Fiona Barton is $1.99! This is a thriller that Elyse really enjoyed! It earned an A grade asa Lightning Review:
I don’t want to say much more about this book because it will ruin it–that’s why I opted for a lightning review even though I could talk about the The Widow for hours. I want every reader to experience the delicious twists and turns this thriller offers.
I loved everything except the heroine, Lucy. And despite my joy at discovering such elegant and delicious writing, and a collection of characters I eagerly pursued through the pages of the novel, Lucy’s complete idiocy, stubbornness, and determination to ruin herself in the eyes of society and in the eyes of the reader made it impossible for me to truly enjoy the book as much as I wanted. Because of her, the grade dropped bit by bit until the skill of the writing and the joy of the other characters were at outright war with my snarls at Lucy.
Cover Snark is here for all your Monday needs! Enjoy! From Rom: I was going through my bookcase and found the 2002 edition cover of Jill Shalvis’ For the Love of Nick. There are so many things about it that are just… a bit off-kilter, that I highly recommend investigating it. Sarah: There does not appear to be a lot of love there. Or comfort. Or relaxation. RHG: Oh my god, that looks kind of … Continue reading Cover Snark: Beware of Worm→
RECOMMENDED: Bollywood and the Beast by Suleikha Snyder is 99c! This is the third book in the Bollywood Confidential series, and the previous books are also on sale. Elyse pulled a Bad Decisions Book Club to finish this one and gave it an A-:
So to sum it up, we have Beauty and the Beast, found family, surprise m/m love story that broke my fucking heart, and lovable curmudgeon. It was kind of like this book was written just for me.
Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)
RECOMMENDED: First Grave on the Right is the first book in Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series, and it’s $2.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Here’s what Sarah had to say:
When I’ve been at conferences with Jones, readers and authors come up to her and tell her how much they love this series. This book won the Golden Heart in 2009, and the RITA for Best First Book in 2012. The heroine, Charley, is terrific. I listened to the audiobook performance by Lorelei King (after buying the Kindle copy on sale I was offered a discounted audio copy) and it was really good. I didn’t want to stop walking the dogs, that’s for sure.
It might too early for the holidays, but there’s never an inconvenient time for a giveaway! September is here! And I probably could have done this post with just my input because it’s a really expensive one for me. I will also not apologize for the amount of fantasy YA coming out that I want to get my grabby hands on. But these new releases are by no means an exhaustive list of amazing books, so here are a few more popular choices to stick on your TBR pile: Sarah J. … Continue reading September’s New Releases→
