This is a nonfiction exploration of plants that can be turned into alcohol, and the history of each. It has a 3.9-star average, and seems like a perfect gift for science nerds, people who enjoy learning the history of the things they eat and drink – or both! All the KDDs today are cooking related, from French cooking to bread making.
The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost is a Kindle Daily Deal for 99c! This is the first book in her new Broken Destiny series, which is a New Adult paranormal romance/urban fantasy. Some readers mentioned having some confusion as they weren’t sure if Frost was trying to write something similar to New Adult, young adult, or a straight adult urban fantasy. However, others thought the blend of action and suspense balanced well with the romantic aspects. I’m sure some Bitchery members have read this one. What do you think?

It also has a bit of the enemies to lovers and fated mates tropes in the plot as well. Readers loved the chemistry between the hero and heroine, while others felt the plot lacked any action. It has a 4.3-star rating on Goodreads.

I haven’t read vampire novels in a VERY long time. I have been vamped-out, were-d out, and thoroughly exhausted by all the plots that add paranormalness of various flavors. Aside from the occasional YA paranormal (such as this month’s book club selection) I haven’t read a paranormal romance in months, possibly.
I’m not sure why I made the exception for this one. I was designing the ad for it and the tagline, about a woman who can control electricity and a vampire who can control fire, caught my attention. We hosted a giveaway with a firepit, so I had press materials about the book in my inbox. Then I saw a few positive tweets about it, and then I read the sample, and boom – it was “leave me alone, it’s electric vampire time.” I was honestly very surprised – my paraxhaustion was pretty entrenched.
