Holiday Homecoming is one of the most oddly paced books I’ve ever encountered. It starts off well, introducing the characters and conflict, and then nothing happens until the second-to-last chapter when suddenly it becomes a thriller. It’s marked as “wholesome.” There’s no sex, and by the end everyone is getting along with each other, so that’s pretty wholesome, I guess? I kind of loved this book, and I kind of hated it. It’s a mess, … Continue reading Holiday Homecoming by Pamela Tracy →

We have some more Lightning Reviews! Yay! This time, we have two very different novellas. One is a holiday contemporary romance and the other is steampunk, alternate goodness. Lastly, Carrie reads a book that might appeal to only the biggest of Wuthering Heights fans.

We have another Rec League request, and this one is from Mary K. Thanks, Mary! I need suggestions for Christmas audio books. I want something happy without a lot of angst, and I need lots of ideas because I’m finicky about narrators. I realize that’s a last minute request. I just thought of it today! I want to gather a few good ones to have Christmas audiobooks, like I have Christmas movies, to listen to … Continue reading The Rec League: Holiday Romance on Audio →

As a reader, it doesn’t take much for me to get on board a crazy train headed for WTF-ville. Vampire NAVY Seal angels? Let me at it. Fingerblasting in a corn field? Sure, sign me up. But one the one aspect of romance that I cannot seem to reconcile my feelings for is the holiday romance. If you like holiday romances, great! Before we get into the nitty gritty, I don’t want any readers feeling … Continue reading The Painful Fantasy of Holiday Romances →

My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched! It’s the second book in her Cedar Ridge contemporary romance series. Readers loved the chemistry between the hero and heroine, but some mentioned that they both came with a lot more baggage than they were expecting from a Shalvis romance. Have you read this one?

A Mistletoe Affair is a sweet, well-written romance for the holidays. Perhaps in deference to the fact that we all have plenty of conflict during the holidays as it is, this novel is almost totally conflict free (at least between the hero and heroine). This makes for a pleasant but somewhat bland read. A Mistletoe Affair is part of a series of loosely connected, contemporary romances set in the fictional town of Wintersage, Massachusetts. Three … Continue reading A Mistletoe Affair by Farrah Rochon →

In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins is $1.99! This is a wintry contemporary romance and I have to say that I just love this cover. It’s cute and cozy and I want that dog. This is the fourth book in the Blue Heron series and has the heroine taking the hero as her date to her ex-fiance’s wedding. Fans of the series love this latest installment, saying that the books just keep getting better. For some readers, the book felt too short, as did the romance. It has a 4-star rating on GR.

RECOMMENDED: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker is $2.99! This is a fantasy historical and reader favorite. Carrie S. reviewed this book in June 2013 and really liked it. She says doesn’t have romance as its primary plot, but it’s a beautiful read:
I loved this book, but not so much for the love story. I loved the mythologies, the settings, and the characters. The neighborhoods were incredibly detailed and vivid and interesting. The cultural and religious communities felt real and fascinating. I love books that let me see into another world, and this book gave me that feeling many times. The characters were all mesmerizing. I felt like I was in each setting, meeting these real people.

I don’t typically read Christmas books. I’ve spent enough years in retail and shipping to stamp out most of the joy of the holiday season. When I hear “Santa Baby” come on the radio my eye starts twitching and I’m treated to flashbacks of working Black Friday. I liked the idea of Come Home for Christmas, Cowboy, though, because it features a married couple trying to navigate a difficult patch in their relationship. I’ve always … Continue reading Come Home For Christmas, Cowboy by Megan Crane →

Kiss of Christmas Magic is 99c! For less than a dollar, you can get twenty (yes, twenty!) paranormal holiday romances. The set includes your standard fare of werewolves and vampire, but also has stories with fey, dragons, and ghosts. There’s something for everyone, which is totally in the spirit of the holidays. Some GR reviewers are saying it’s one of the best holiday anthologies that they’ve read, while a few said there were only a small handful of stories out of the collection that they liked. It has a 4.1-star rating on GR.

The Kent Brothers Trilogy by Jaci Burton is 99c! It’s that time of year again when holiday romances come out of the wood works. The trilogy features all three of the Kent Brothers novellas. The stories feature a second chance romance, a single mom heroine, and a divorced hero. Something for everyone! Though the bundle lacks actual reviews on GR, it has a rating of 4.3 stars.
