Neon Gods by Katee Robert is $1.99! This is the first book in the Dark Olympus series. This is close to the top of my TBR pile and I’ve heard so many good things. A friend read it and wished it were spicier. Are you a fan?

The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo is $1.99!This is a mixture of historical fiction, fantasy, and romance. The Ghost Bride. It’s also been made into a Netflix adaptation that I’m super curious about! Since this book is on sale and Choo’s sophomore novel was also reduced in price, does this mean there’s a new book coming out?!

Cranky Ladies of History is an anthology of short fiction about real historical women who were angry and did things with that anger. Some of these things were spectacular, and some were just spectacularly appalling (looking at you, Erszebet Báthory) (but not looking too closely, because I really don’t want to provoke you), but it makes for a fascinating anthology theme, tailor-made for fans of Carrie’s ‘Kickass Women in History’ series. In the introduction, Tansy … Continue reading Cranky Ladies of History edited by Tansy Rayner Roberts and Tehani Croft Wessely →
RECOMMENDED: Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel is $1.99! It’s a scifi novel with a female protagonist. Readers say that though this scifi is a little darker and less “feel good,” the loved it. However, some felt a bulk of the book was just setup and information dumping for the next book. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads. Elyse enjoyed this one and I really loved the audiobook.

Is it officially fall yet? Because cooler weather means curling up with a good book, a fluffy blanket, and a warm drink, which is easily one of my favorite things to do. Below are some awesome books that the SBTB posse is totally pumped for, but here are some other important releases coming out this month: New Margaret Atwood! Hag-Seed is a retelling of Shakespeare’s The Tempest Charlaine Harris returns to her Aurora Teagarden cozy mystery series with All … Continue reading October’s New Releases →
RECOMMENDED: Sabriel by Garth Nix is $1.99! Many of you were talking about the continuation of this series in a previous Hide Your Wallet post. For those who want to jump on the awesome train or want to convince a friend/family to jump on with you, the first book in the Abhorsen series can be snagged for less than $2! This young adult fantasy novel involves a girl, magic, a boarding school, and a quest to find her missing father. Some recent readers of the series found the material a little dated, but they seem to be in the minority as the book is closing in on 100,000 ratings on GR with a 4.1-star rating overall.

RECOMMENDED: Dark Skye by Kresley Cole is $1.99! This means we’re officially caught up on the cover redesigns. This is a paranormal romance and my favorite of the series. I waited ages for Thronos and Lanthe’s story and I wound up giving the book an A- grade:
The book was worth the wait. Truly. The themes of religion fit nicely into the character differences and I was really pulling for Lanthe and Thronos to make important compromises for the benefit of their relationship. I also thought it was a nice touch that Lanthe’s abilities grew more powerful and she became more confident in using them when she was around Thronos, a sign that being with the right person can make you stronger.
