One of the very best books I’ve read in a while is on sale for a ridiculous ninety-nine cents for Kindle. I can’t understand it because it is worth so very much more. It is volume one in a trilogy and I pray this silly price means volume two is on its way because I would pay full price for volume two because volume one was that good. Cinder by Marissa Meyer is $2.99! This is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles series. Set in New Beijing, a fictional world of the future, Cinder is influenced by several fairy tales, so if you’re a sucker for retellings, you may want to give this is a try. The first book does end on a cliffhanger, but the next one is on sale! The original, scifi setting really shines according to readers, though the “plot twists” are a little predictable. It has a 4.1-star rating on GoodReads.

This is the first book in the very popular Hunger Games Trilogy, which of course has now been turned into an equally successful movie franchise. Though it’s billed as a young adult dystopian novel, it’s heavy on the violence. And while the holidays may be over, it’s always the right time to give the gift of books. RECOMMENDED: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker is $2.99! This is a fantasy historical and reader favorite. Carrie S. reviewed this book in June 2013 and really liked it. She says doesn’t have romance as its primary plot, but it’s a beautiful read:
I loved this book, but not so much for the love story. I loved the mythologies, the settings, and the characters. The neighborhoods were incredibly detailed and vivid and interesting. The cultural and religious communities felt real and fascinating. I love books that let me see into another world, and this book gave me that feeling many times. The characters were all mesmerizing. I felt like I was in each setting, meeting these real people.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot is $2.99! This originally started as a Kindle Daily Deal and so far, Barnes & Noble as match the price. Let’s hope a few others will join the fight! I believe Carrie has read the book and loved it; her recommendation was why I bought the book months and months ago. There seemed to be a few readers who felt the author inserted herself too much into the nonfiction narrative, but many enjoyed how the medical science in the book was written in such a relatable way. It has a 4-star rating on GR.

The Mark of the Tala by Jeffe Kennedy is $2.99! This is the first book in the Twelve Kingdoms fantasy trilogy, which focuses on three sisters, each very different in their personalities. Readers loved the bond between the sisters, though found the pacing to be off at times. In my experience, fantasy pacing can be tricky because of all the world-building the author has to do.
