If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading February 2022 New Releases, Part One →

RECOMMENDED: Off the Clock by Roni Loren is $1.99! I read this one and gave it a B+. Content warnings here for childhood trauma and suicide, which are the major ones I remember. Here’s what I thought:
When I first heard about Off the Clock, I was pretty excited. I’m all for erotic romances with smart people and it’s nice to see non-billionaires. So I went into the book amped for some nerdy people getting down and dirty, but was pleasantly surprised that it was so much more than that – it was emotional and showed an interesting portrayal of individuals dealing with all manner of trauma and mental illness.

The Duke Heist by Erica Ridley is $1.99! This is book one in a new series and was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet. Elyse was super excited about the heist element, though I remember her mentioning that there’s a malecalico kitten and how that’s rather rare, though not impossible.

Not the Duke’s Darling by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! We ran a guest review from Ellen before they became a regular reviewer. Ellen gave it a B-:
Overall, I think if you are sufficiently intrigued by the premise of a secret order of Wise Women, you’ll enjoy the book. And if you don’t typically crave a lot of angst and emotional torment in your romance you might enjoy it more than I did!

Fortune’s Pawn by Rachel Bach is $2.99! Catch this one as part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is a scifi novel with some strong romantic elements and, in the past, I’ve heard it described as Kate Daniels in space. Many people loved this book and its worldbuilding, though there are a few reviewers who said they never connected with any of the characters.

Never a Bride by Megan Frampton is $1.99! This is part of the Duke’s Daughters series and features a fake engagement. Readers recommend Frampton’s writing style, but found this one to be light on historical believability. Have you read this one?

There are fifty books on this dang new release list. Fifty! But there are so many more books being released this October. Here are a few more that have some buzz behind them: Garth Nix returns with Angel Mage . Penny Reid’s Smartypants Romance imprint is releasing Baking Me Crazy by Karla Sorensen . Hidden Cove by Meg Tilly is the third book in her Solace Island series.

The Chase by Elle Kennedy is 99c! This is the first book in the new adult Briar U contemporary romance series. This technically a spin-off of the Off-Campus series and features secondary characters getting their own HEAs, but you don’t have to read the previous series for this. Have you read this one?

TL;DR: If you want to pretend that you’re getting fuzzy warm equality feels, but actually like stereotyping gay men, this is an A+ gold star book. The story is competent. There are cute moments. It’s hot. I get why this is a RITA finalist and why there are a bunch of squeeing reviews on Amazon. If you’re at all remotely anywhere on the queer spectrum, or, you know, if you’re an actual ally? You might … Continue reading Him by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen →
While Wes is now sort of “don’t ask, don’t tell” out to his hockey teammates and coaches at college, he was only really coming to terms with his sexuality when he was eighteen and crushing hard on his best friend at hockey camp. Absolutely desperate for an excuse to touch him, he made a drunken bet and subsequently freaked out after he and his best friend fooled around one very memorable time. Feeling horribly guilty, … Continue reading Him by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen →
