A Thousand Beginnings and Endings is $1.99! This is a YA anthology that focuses on mythology and folklore. It includes fifteen stories by authors like Julie Kagawa, Roshani Chokshi, and more. What I think is most interesting is that after each story, there is a little note from the author on which folk tales or myths were their inspiration.
Dream Maker by Kristen Ashley is $1.99! This book released in May and is the first in a new series. I’m very curious about the heroine, who takes up erotic dancing to help pay for her engineering degree. I’m all for more positive representations of sex work, though Ashley’s books don’t always work for me. Have you read this one?
RECOMMENDED: This Side of Murder by Anna Lee Huber is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, but isn’t being price-matched yet. Sarah has been a huge fan of Huber’s historical mysteries and had this to say:
If you like smart, clever, extremely competent women sleuths with a handful of secrets and a crap ton of inner resilience this is a terrific start to a mystery series. Good for fans of Huber’s other series, and of historical mysteries.
The Bawdy Bride by Amanda Scott is $1.99! This is a historical romance that was originally published in 1995 and seems to have Gothic elements. Some reviews mention there are some hefty old school vibes, while others said they were surprisingly bored.
Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson is $1.99! We’ve reviewed another one of Lawson’s books on the site and her writing comes highly recommended. Lawson has a knack for addressing tough subjects with an approachable, humorous voice. Are you a fan of Lawson’s blog? Have you read any of her books?
Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and hasn’t been price-matched yet. This book is really adorable and the cover is gorgeous. Readers loved how the friendship between the two awkward main characters unfolded. However, some readers felt the heroine, Penny, was rather unlikeable.
Scandal Wears Satin by Loretta Chase is 99c! This is the second book in The Dressmakers series, and the first one is $1.99. Readers loved the heroine in this one, but felt that hero was..not great. If you’ve read this one, tell us your thoughts!
RECOMMENDED: Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and, the other deals include more romances and some historical fiction. Check them out! Elyse reviewed this one and gave it an A:
Cold-Hearted Rake has the elements that make me love Kleypas so much as a writer: female friendships, a hero who is a rake but somehow also emotionally aware, a setting that’s fully developed and not a backdrop, and scalding sexual tension.
Elyse: I really enjoyed this book (hence the one day read) mostly because it focuses on a period in time I find really interesting and have read a lot about, but also because it stars a woman who wasn’t well-known to history.
RECOMMENDED: Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn is still $1.99 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Heroine Complex series and it’s one that Carrie loves. She reviewed this one and gave it a B+:
You usually can’t judge a book by it’s cover, but honestly you can totally judge this book by its cover, which features two Asian heroines with obviously different personalities, a demonic cupcake (can’t get enough of those) and bright colors. If that cover causes grabby hand syndrome, then yes, you will adore the book.
The Scandalous Flirt by Olivia Drake is $2.99! This is part of the Cinderella Sisterhood series and it’s currently a finalist for a 2018 RITA in the Long Historical category. Readers loved the enemies to lovers, but within the first few pages, there is a magical g*psy character.
