I believe this is new for our “Best Of” week, but I challenged each of our reviewers to pick their favorite release of 2020, whether they reviewed it or not. Some of them weren’t too happy they had to pick just one, though this place would be absolutely lawless if I didn’t make rules! Here are our favorites of the year! We’d also love to hear about your best read of 2020!
NB: This week, we’re taking a look back at 2020. We’ve got a week of best-of posts to share, with reviews, cover snark, sales, and more. We hope you enjoy revisiting our archives, and most of all, we wish you and yours a wonderful holiday and a happy new year – with all the very best of reading. … We’re counting down the best of our 2020 reviews, which I’m sure you’re all curious about. … Continue reading Best of 2020 Reviews, Part One! →

RECOMMENDED: The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan is 99c! This is the second book in the Brothers Sinister series. Redheadedgirl absolutely loved this book and gave it an A+:
COURTNEY MILAN HOW DO YOU BRAIN.
There was NOT A GOOD GODDAMN THING I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT THIS BOOK. Nothing.

RECOMMENDED: Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan is 99c! Catherine wrote a guest review for this one before coming on as a regular reviewer. She gave it an A:
This is a novella that masquerades as a cheerful, vengeful romp, as a sweet, sort-of second-chance love story between two women. And honestly, it is enormously satisfying on this level, and it is laugh-out-loud funny, even on a second or third reading.

Content warning: racism, including the extra messy and painful kind that comes from people who love you and really ought to know better… The Duke Who Didn’t is a complete delight. It’s a low-tension friends-to-lovers story set in a small English village over the course of three very busy days. (All Chloe’s days are busy.) The village is notable for two things – first, it has a very high population of Chinese, half Chinese, and … Continue reading The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan →

If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading September’s New Releases, Part Two →

Ghosting by Tash Skilton is $3.99 at Amazon! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, but isn’t being price-matched just yet. I enjoyed this book and would describe it as Cyrano de Bergerac meets online dating. I also had writing duo Tash Skilton on my contemporary romance panel for Bookstore Romance Day.

Unveiled by Courtney Milan – enhanced edition – is 99c! This is the first book in Milan’s Turner series. The enhanced ebook version features pictures and audio in addition to the text. Some readers expressed that they found the first half of the book on the slow side, but many agree it’s completely worth pushing through those first few chapters.

This guest review is by Catherine Heloise. Previously, Catherine ranted about Shakespearean rockstars and loved Chase Me by Laura Florand. She has a food blog called Cate’s Cates, where she creates allergy-friendly treats, and she also runs the Stories Under Paris website, where she creates fictional stories based on the names of Paris Metro stations. How cool is that? … This novella gets an A for all the fun. Courtney Milan’s new novella, Mrs Martin’s Incomparable … Continue reading Guest Review: Mrs Martin’s Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan →

RECOMMENDED: The Suffragette Scandal by Courtney Milan is 99c. Pretty much anyone I’ve heard talk about Milan’s books says, “Just read them all, trust me.” I concur.
Redheadedgirl and Carrie did a joint review of this title and they gave it an A:
Both Redheadedgirl and I give this book ALL THE A’s. We laughed, we cried, we were inspired and frustrated.
I may have swooned a little.
Redheadedgirl spent her Friday emailing the other Smart Bitches reviewers and telling us “HURRY UP AND READ THE BOOK I NEED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT”.
