Welcome back to Get Rec’d! This time, I’m featuring two recommendations from readers. I always love hearing about books that may be of interest to the Bitchery. I’ve also included two of my favorite books to suggest, as I feel like they’re vastly underrated and I selfishly want more people to read them. What recommendations have you received lately? Grave Reservations by Cherie Priest is $1.99! This is book one in a mystery series with paranormal elements. It also gives me Stephanie Plum vibes. I love Priest’s horror novels, so I’m curious about this one.
Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews is $3.409! This is a spin-off of Andrews’ Kate Daniels series with the main character being Kate and Curran’s ward. Obviously this will be a more nuanced read if you’ve finished or are familiar with the prior series. I dropped off that train around book three.
RECOMMENDED: Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente is $1.99 at Amazon! This might be a leftover Kindle Daily Deal. Carrie gave this one an A-:
I loved the book and would gleefully quote it all day. It made me feel happy and bubbly. It celebrated art of all kinds, even (possibly especially) shitty art. It made me feel hopeful and it made me laugh, and I love the message with which it begins and ends.
RECOMMENDED: The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey is $2.99! This is the first book in a new trilogy. Carrie read this one and had this to say on a previous Hide Your Wallet:
Character driven and imaginative. Will never regard a tree in the same way again.
Beard Science by Penny Reid is $1.99 at Amazon! This is part of the Winston Brothers series and can be read on its own. Readers seem divided on whether this was their favorite so far in the series or their least favorite. What do you think?
We have another crop of Lightning Reviews and they couldn’t be more different. I also feel like I say that every time. In this edition, we have a historical fantasy/horror, a mystery/thriller, and a new-to-us author with a romance set in Hollywood!
