Everything about When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare worked for me. Everything. Bust out the squee mop, y’all because this review is just going to be a flappy-hands Good Book Noise® mess.
Things this book has:
1. A sexy Scot hero I pictured as Sam Heughan. 2. A heroine who is a naturalist and illustrator. 3. Tons of UST. 4. A completely crazy sauce plot that Dare pulls off flawlessly. 5. A missing lobster.
RECOMMENDED: A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily deal today. Tara gave this one an A-:
I’m a gigantic sucker for retellings, whether they’re of fairy tales, myths, or classic novels, and A Spindle Splintered might be my favourite so far. Its take on a multiverse feels fresh because there are no superheroes, only badass girls saving themselves.
Hide those wallets because it’s Tuesday, and that means new releases. Admittedly, I think it’s a slow start to the month, but the next two weeks are looking overloaded with new books we want to pick up. All I’m saying is get ready and gird yourselves for the next two HYW posts. This one has a couple rereleases of previously published books with new covers or updated content. There are also contemporary romances and mysteries!
A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in her Reluctant Royals series and this seems to be a series that just keeps getting better with its books. Many readers loved how Alyssa writes consent, agency, and all sorts of other awesome and empowering things. However, some warn that this book takes several chapters to get into the swing of things.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! Sarah completely loved it:
First, yes, you should absolutely read this book immediately, if you haven’t already. There is so much happening in the conflict within each of the protagonists, between the protagonists, and around them and their allies and enemies, I can’t possibly discuss all of it, but please know: if you are a reader (and why else would you be here, right?) this book is a marvelous, intelligent, respectful, breathtaking treat for your brain.
The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is a tropey historical romance with light conflict. It worked totally for me, but lately I’ve needed less darkness and fewer obstacles for the main characters to overcome in my reading.
Yours Cruelly, Elvira by Cassandra Peterson is $3.99! This is a memoir by none other than Elvia, Mistress of the Dark. Hello! I will warn that Elvira discusses her miscarriages and sexual assault in her memoir, if those are sensitive topics for some of you.
Welcome to Lit Wicks! This is where we pair an author’s backlist with candles to really immerse yourself in the reading experience. All of the candles featured in these post are from Etsy, which means there is often worldwide shipping and that you’re supporting independent crafters and sellers. The Etsy candle rabbit hole is one I have gone down many times. Instead of focusing on an author for September, we figured we would switch it … Continue reading Lit Wicks: Nerds in Love→
RECOMMENDED: Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price-matched. Elyse & I really enjoyed this horror/sci-fi novel. We jointly reviewed the book and ultimately decided on a B. We loved the cast of characters, but found the ending anticlimactic.
RECOMMENDED: King’s Captive by Amber Bardan is $3.99! If you’re looking for a mindfuck of a romance novel, this comes highly recommended by Elyse. She gave this romance an A:
If you like darker romance or like me love a good psychological thriller, King’s Captive is so much your catnip. If you prefer your hero to be squeaky clean, then maybe steer clear.
