Four Weddings and a Sixpence is super comforting. It’s a collection of four novellas, all Regency romances, all remarkably angst-free. Five minutes after reading each story I had already forgotten all about it, but I remembered my enjoyment while reading it. The novellas are held together by a framing story written by Julia Quinn. In 1817, four girls who are attending Madame Rochambeaux’s Gentle School for Girls find a sixpence in the mattress. The girls … Continue reading Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stefanie Sloane →
As we near the end of this long national campaign (I’m sorry, non-USAians, someday this ridiculous campaign will end and it might even be November 9th), and the historic choice in front of us, it’s important to remember that while women in the US gained the right to vote in 1919, the movement championed by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton was at the expense of Women of Color. Black women fought their own … Continue reading Daughters of a Nation: A Black Suffragette Historical Romance Anthology →

Victorian Ghost Stories by Eminent Women Writers is an anthology that contains twenty-one stories of crypts, brain fevers, meditations on the meaning of God, enormous crumbling houses, obsessive artists, creepy children, and moors. So, you know, pretty much everything I cherish in life. While most of the stories were published firmly within the Victorian Era, a few were published just before or just after it. As is, unfortunately, often the case with older books, I … Continue reading Victorian Ghost Stories By Eminent Women Writers: Edited by Richard Dalby →
For me, knitting is a comfort activity. It stimulates me creatively, but the repetitive motions of knitting and purling are incredibly soothing. I don’t knit as much in the summer, but now that fall is upon us (at least, it is here), I want the cozy feeling of curling up with a movie and my latest knitting project. When I picked up The Knitting Diaries, I was hoping for the same feeling of coziness. Normally … Continue reading The Knitting Diaries by Debbie Macomber, Susan Mallery, and Christina Skye →
Welcome to Wednesday Links! This week we have some romance news, an awesome Instagram account to follow, and a call for help! As you … Continue reading Links: GoFundMe, Siblings, Hollywood Look-Alikes, & More →
The Devil’s Doorbell is an erotic anthology made up of seven stories by authors that I’ve heard of and/or read. The stories are all contemporary but they aren’t really connected, save for the explanation of “the devil’s doorbell.” Each story has some reference to the fact that “the devil’s doorbell” is another term for a woman’s clitoris. Recently, I was going through a heavy reading slump and an anthology seemed exactly what I needed. I … Continue reading The Devil’s Doorbell by Anne Calhoun, et al →

RECOMMENDED: Mad About the Marquess by Elizabeth Essex is 99c! Elyse recently read and loved this book, giving it an A:
This book is delightful. It’s actually fucking delightful now I think about it, which is like delightful times ten. The dialogue is wonderful and sass wars are just about my favorite thing ever. The plot is just enough crazysauce layered on top of historical goodness. There was literally nothing about Mad About the Marquess that I didn’t like.

The Secret Loves of Geek Girls is an anthology that combines prose writing, illustrations, and short comics by many different authors. All of the entries explore the ways in which women who identify as geeks experience romance. There are countless variations on this theme – some people write about their first crush, some about a divorce, some about how fan fiction shaped the way they talk about sexuality. The general theme is romance but the … Continue reading The Secret Loves of Geek Girls ed. by Hope Nicholson →
Hooray! Avon Impulse has published a Hanukkah anthology with stories from Megan Hart, KK Hendin, Stacey Agdern, and Jennifer Gracen, and I have 10 digital copies to give away! Also: I wrote the foreword. But that’s not fiction, or romance. Here’s the info on the stories inside this anthology: Megan Hart’s story: It’s definitely not love at first sight for Amanda and her cute but mysterious new neighbor, Ben. Can a Chanukah miracle show them … Continue reading Giveaway: Burning Bright – A Hanukkah Anthology →

Seven Books for Seven Lovers is available for preorder for $4.99! This set comes out on December 7th and features seven full-length romances. The jacket copy only talks about a few of them, so the rest of the romances are still a mystery. But seven books for less than $5 is a pretty good deal!

RECOMMENDED: Unraveled by Courtney Milan is 99c! We’re big fans of Milan’s writing here at SBTB HQ, so of course we have a review of this book. Redheadedgirl wound up giving it an A:
Both characters had traits that I really admired, and avoided tropes that get tiresome. There’s no build up of unnecessary drama because she won’t tell him things. Which leaves plenty of room for all the necessary drama. YAY!
