This book does a lot of things right. The character work is deep and brilliant, the historical context is plentiful and guides readers along even if they know nothing, and the writing is so beautifully done. Like I mentioned above, the overall pace of the story didn’t bother me, just the pace of the romance. If that would have been sped up, this would be a near perfect book for me. I still recommend it, but you need to go into this expecting the slowest of slow burns.
Crossing Hearts by Kimberly Kincaid is 99c at Amazon! This is a small town contemporary romance and the first in a series. The second book is also on sale. Readers loved the hero in this one, but felt the book could have been cut down by about fifty pages.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This could expire ASAP. Simply put, GET THIS BOOK. Sarah completely loved it:
First, yes, you should absolutely read this book immediately, if you haven’t already. There is so much happening in the conflict within each of the protagonists, between the protagonists, and around them and their allies and enemies, I can’t possibly discuss all of it, but please know: if you are a reader (and why else would you be here, right?) this book is a marvelous, intelligent, respectful, breathtaking treat for your brain.
The Engagement Game by Jenny Holiday is 99c! This is part of the 49th Floor series and can be read on its own. I follow Molly O’Keefe on Goodreads and she gave this one five stars for the book being “clever and sexy.” I will admit though that the hero (based from the description) sounds like a jerk. Readers looking for a good historical mystery/romance or a historical with a little more kink will enjoy The Duke Who Knew Too Much. This is also the first book in a series–I know many of your credit cards just winced a little.
Dilemma in Yellow Silk by Lynne Connolly is 99c as a Kindle Daily Deal! This is book five in the Emperors of London series and all the previous books are priced at $3.99 or less. This book has all sorts of catnip – false identity, some road trip elements, friends to lovers. However, some readers felt the romance started our rather promising and just lost momentum. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.
Suddenly One Summer by Julie James is $1.99! James is a contemporary romance favorite around here and this book made it to the quarter-finals in this year’s DABWAHA Tournament. Readers warn that though they loved the ending, they warn it’s not your typical romantic way to end a story (no clue what this means, but saw several people commenting on it). Many also loved the heroine. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.
The Wicked Wallflower by Maya Rodale is 99c at most vendors, though $1.99 at All Romance! This is a historical romance that’s part of Rodale’s “Bad Boys & Wallflowers” series. The hero and heroine have a pretend engagement, and you know those always work out the way the characters intend. Elyse reviewed the book and wound up giving it a C-:
I liked how Blake and Emma finally come together in the end, but getting there was a little rocky. The Wicked Wallflower wasn’t a bad book by any means, but with so many Regencies out there, it failed to stand out from the rest of the pack.
RECOMMENDED: The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons is $1.99! SO MANY READERS love this book. And it’s easily one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. This is an emotionally intense historical romance set in Russia during WWII. Some readers lose their consonants when describing how much they love this book; others found the story too melodramatic. This is one where people love it or hate it, but those who love it can go on for hours about all the things they adored. Have you read this book?
