RECOMMENDED: The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow is $3.99! I read this one and gave it a B+:
If you’re in the mood for a lovely, tender fantasy novel about belonging and one that feels more like a long, relaxing bath than a hot, intense shower will all of the fancy pressure and pulsating settings you can imagine, you’ll love this one. It’s a soothing pick for when you hope to take comfort in a book

RECOMMENDED: Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse is $1.99! I bought the book at full price and immediately preordered the second one upon finishing. You can find my review here:
It’s steeped in mythology, badassery, and lots and lots of violence. If you’re sensitive to graphic, gritty details, this book is not for you.

RECOMMENDED: A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer is $1.99! This one was recommended to Carrie and she really enjoyed it, giving the book an A-:
I enjoyed the way this book both used and subverted Beauty and the Beast tropes. There’s a good blend of angst and humor and worldbuilding.

We’ve got some Lightning Reviews for ya today! The three mini reviews below contain a short story collection within the sci-fi genre, a work of historical fiction from a series, and nonfiction about getting shit done. Enjoy!
Having raved about the first book in the Kopp Sisters series, Girl Waits With Gun, I found the sequels (Lady Cop Makes Trouble, Miss Kopp’s Midnight Confessions) to be disappointing. I’m pleased to say that the series returns to form with the most recent book, Miss Kopp Just Won’t Quit. As always, most of the story is either completely true or inspired by real events, and the title was the headline of a real news article. … Continue reading Miss Kopp Just Won’t Quit by Amy Stewart →

RECOMMENDED: The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is part of a huge romance Kindle Daily Deal sale and it’s being price-matched as well. Other romances in the sale include books by Sarah MacLean, Elizabeth Hoyt, and Katee Robert. Elyse really loved this book and gave it an A grade:
I totally recommend reading The Duchess Deal, but preferably while sober so you can really appreciate all of it. It’s the perfect blend of two of my favorite fairytale tropes, it’s got a hero who never an alpha-hole, it’s funny, and it’s got female friendship. What more could you want?

RECOMMENDED: Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas is $1.99 at Amazon! So many readers were looking forward to this book when it first released, and Carrie gave it a B+:
Devil in Spring was so delightful that I read it slowly because I had to take frequent squee breaks. I truly cannot sufficiently express how overjoyed this book made me. That said, I don’t think it will be everyone’s catnip, because the main character sometimes seems overly young and naïve, even given her character quirks.

Girl Waits With Gun is a historical fiction about the first female deputy sheriff in the USA and her two sisters. It is set just before the outbreak of WWI and just after a major strike by silk-factory workers. It is absolutely delightful, with a heroine who is tall, loud, smart, and deeply protective of her family. The narrator and protagonist of the book is Constance Kopp. She lives in a farmhouse with her older … Continue reading Girl Waits With Gun by Amy Stewart →
