Hide Your Wallet

November’s New Releases

It’s Hide Your Wallet time! This is where we talk about upcoming books that release this month, and we do our damnedest not to feel the sting of overdraft fees. Below are the books we’re personally waiting to read, but here are a few others that might be on your TBR pile: Artemis by Andy Weir is out – MOON HEIST! E.L. James returns to her Fifty Shades series with Darker . Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series is still going … Continue reading November’s New Releases

Cover Awe: Costuming

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

This Cover Awe, we’re talking about great costuming on romance covers! Now I will fully admit that I picked all of the covers below, so it’s fully my fault if you hate them. What I also enjoy about this feature is we get to discuss what elements of a cover work for us and what doesn’t. Sometimes, we disagree! Amanda: Sarah did a podcast episode with Alyssa on the costuming and you should all go … Continue reading Cover Awe: Costuming

Introducing Cover Awe!

Counting on a Countess by Eva Leigh. A redheaded woman in a gorgeous green dress is standing in a rose garden while the sun sets behind her.

Amanda had a great idea for a new feature: covers we really, really like. Presenting, Cover Awe! It can be very easy to identify what it is about a cover you don’t necessarily like. Nipples like dinner plates, greasy shoulders, weird muscle patterns, alarmed livestock in the distance – the list goes on and on (and on in the archives). But looking at a cover and recognizing that you like it can be a little … Continue reading Introducing Cover Awe!

Books on Sale: Let Us Dream by Alyssa Cole & More

Let Us Dream by Alyssa Cole is 99c! This was Redheadedgirl’s favorite story in the Daughters of a Nation anthology. It’s also nominated for a RITA® this year in the Romance Novella category. Ppyajunebug wrote a guest review for our Reader Challenge and here’s what she had to say:

Cole is one of the few authors on my instabuy list – I will buy anything she writes, regardless of genre, pairing, or length. She writes interesting, fully-realized characters with an eye towards how society shapes their experiences and personalities. “Let Us Dream” is no exception to that rule and I, and everyone else who reads it, should be thankful for that.

Books on Sale: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole & More

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole is $2.99! Simply put, GET THIS BOOK. It’s a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. It was our book club selection for April and Sarah completely loved it:

First, yes, you should absolutely read this book immediately, if you haven’t already. There is so much happening in the conflict within each of the protagonists, between the protagonists, and around them and their allies and enemies, I can’t possibly discuss all of it, but please know: if you are a reader (and why else would you be here, right?) this book is a marvelous, intelligent, respectful, breathtaking treat for your brain.

Books on Sale: Wonder Woman Unbound by Tim Hanley & More

RECOMMENDED: Wonder Woman Unbound by Tim Hanley is $3.82 at Amazon and $4.99 elsewhere. While not your typical discounted price, I thought this would be great to tie in for RHG’s Wonder Woman film review. Carrie really enjoyed this book and it earned an A+ grade:

Wonder Woman has persisted as a feminist icon whether she is taking over a Nazi U-boat, or getting excited about shopping and dating a new crush, or twirling around on our TV sets (I LOVED that show!). At her best and at her worst, she stands for justice and she always gets the bad guy. This book did a great job of tracing her history in an entertaining interesting way and I highly recommend it!

RITA Reader Challenge Review

“Let Us Dream” by Alyssa Cole

Let Us Dream

I don’t know how to start this review other than to say that “Let Us Dream” by Alyssa Cole is really, really good and you should go and buy it immediately. “Let Us Dream” is the story of Bertha, a black suffragette who owns a club in Harlem in 1917, and Amir, an immigrant from Bengal with socialist leanings and a hell of a way in the kitchen. If you’re sick of upper and upper-middle … Continue reading “Let Us Dream” by Alyssa Cole
