RECOMMENDED: The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. Sarah had this to say:
It’s absorbing, beautiful, and made me tear up at the end. It’s amazing – buy it for yourself or for someone who likes historical romance, mystery, or really, really powerful writing.

RECOMMENDED: The Hollow of Fear by Sherry Thomas is $1.99! This is the third book the Lady Sherlock series, which probably needs to be read in order. Sarah gave it a B+:
I will keep recommending this series, as it is so layered with opportunities to examine it. It can be read as a mystery, as a historical novel with found family, as an examination of sexism and societal limitations on women, and how those limitations are subverted in acceptable and unacceptable ways, or as a study of those outside the boundaries of high society and how they survive with disguises built of behavior.

The Proposal by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in her Survivor’s Club series, which is a favorite amongst the Bitchery. Readers loved the hero, Hugo, but I will admit I’ve never read a Balogh that I wasn’t “meh” about. Balogh fans, what do you love about her books?

RECOMMENDED: A Duke by Default by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! We read this for my book club and we all agreed there wasn’t enough blacksmithing and sword-making. Carrie enjoyed this one and gave it an A-:
This is such a solid book – it’s tear-jerking, it’s inspiring, it’s sexy and romantic, it’s interesting (sword history!) and it’s funny. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

His Runaway Campfire Princess by Gwen Hayes is 99c at Amazon! This contemporary romance sounds adorable with a princess running off to Singles’ Week at a camp. Be warned that it’s on the shorter side and some of the book’s description makes me slightly wary (bring her to heel? really?).

RECOMMENDED: Highland Promise by Alyson McLayne is $2.99! This is the first book in The Sons of Gregor MacLeod series and the other books are also on sale. I read this one and gave it a B+:
If you love a Disney princess, in all their saccharine, animal-loving, pure-of-heart glory, you’ll love Caitlin. If you have a weakness for kilted heroes, there’s plenty of plaid to go around. It’s a pretty pleasing start to a new series and worth a shot, especially since the cover model has some Sam Heughan vibes, don’t you think?

The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic by Emily Croy Barker is $1.99! This book was the subject of a solved HaBO from yesterday. I highly recommend checking out the HaBO because the request is totally bananas. So bananas that you just might have to read it.

Warning that the book does include violence and harsh language against women both on and off the page. Did Amanda just read and enjoy a historical romance? Hell yes, she did. For readers who have been around the Bitchery for while, you might know that I’ve had a complicated relationship with historical romances. I just can’t get into them much anymore. It’s not historical romance’s fault! However, every so often, I’ll pick one up, and … Continue reading Highland Promise by Alyson McLayne →
