RECOMMENDED: Beginner’s Guide: Love and Other Chemical Reactions by Six de los Reyes is 99c at Amazon! Sarah enjoyed this nerdy romance and gave it a B:
Seriously, if you love science and experiments and science nerdery, you’ll probably really like this book. Much of the story is about Kaya’s journey from accepting herself to appreciating herself, and her growth from keeping a massive distance between her thoughts and her emotions to learning how to relate them to one another, and to take the risks involved in engaging with other people.
RECOMMENDED: Pairing Off by Elizabeth Harmon is $2.99! This book received two great reviews on the site. Redheadedgirl gave it a B+:
What really stands out is that it’s clear that Harmon is a skating fan, and either has skated or has put in the work to know what things are: she knows the names of the jumps and the mechanics and clearly understands the facets of training that aren’t just ice time. She isn’t just like, “Um, there’s skates right? And ice? You jump and spin and that’s all you know need to know, right? I’m good.”

I don’t always want my romances this sweet, but this was an enjoyable and immersive Olympic skating romp with likable characters and lots of fun details. It combined familiar plot elements in a different setting and managed to avoid many sensational and stereotypical landmines in what I imagine could have been tough international terrain.
The Best Kind of Trouble by Lauren Dane is $1.99. This is book 1 of the Hurley Brothers series, and is about a former rock star and a librarian in a small town who once upon a time had a serious fling with him – which she’d prefer he didn’t bring up. (That never works out the way they want, right?) This book has a 3.85-star average.
The Charm School by Susan Wiggs is $1.99 right now. This historical was originally published in 1999, and is about an awkward, shy young woman who sneaks aboard a ship bound for Rio (as you do). When the crew notice the attraction between her and the captain, they begin tutoring her in the the finer arts of being a confident young lady (yes way). This book has a much-loved Ugly Duckling storyline, and a 3.9-star average on GR.
Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley is 99c at Amazon, Kobo, and Google:Play! Elsewhere, it’s $3.99, so let’s hope for the price-matching fairies will pay a visit. This is a contemporary romance that borders on the erotic side, and features a motorcycle-riding hero and a one-night stand. Ashley tends to write some dramatic, angsty romance, which is something readers either seems to love or hate. Have you read this one?
