2018 Gift Guide: I Think There Are Some Sales This Week?

Blue wrapped package with silver ribbonTime for another installment of our 2018 Holiday Gift Guide!

If you have any other gift ideas or want to tells us all about a wonderful shop you discovered, please email me! We love shopping for ourselves, and for all of you, and we compile the gift guide all year.

NB: most of the links in the Holiday Gift Guide posts are affiliate-coded, which means a portion of the purchase price is sent back to us as a commission, at no extra cost to you. If you do some of your shopping through our links, you help keep the site running! Plus, there are links over in the left sidebar in the “Welcome” section should you need them. Thank you much!

It’s two days before Black Friday, and the sales are here, there, and everywhere. This week should bring a LOT of shopping options, even if you don’t want to put on real pants and real shoes to go find them. Let’s have a look!

Reading or Listening Subscriptions

Should you wish to provide ample reading to a friend or loved one, a gift subscription to a digital reading service might be a perfect idea.

You can gift Audible subscriptions in different lengths of time, or sign up and get two free audiobooks.

BUT!! There’s also a pretty terrific deal on new Audible subscriptions going on right now, though I can’t tell (I’m sorry!) if they are gift-able: three months of Audible Gold at 53% off. You’ll pay $6.95/month instead of the regular $14.95 fee as a new subscriber. I also have seen mention of potential sales on audiobooks on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

A subscription to the Audible Romance Package might also be a perfect idea for you – or someone you like a lot.

And if you know someone moving into a new home or starting a new life in the new year, an Amazon Prime gift subscription might be a lovely thing!

If you know someone who loves British tv, especially shows set in small communities where people die alarmingly frequently, consider a gift subscription to Acorn TV: $50 for a year means all the British murder you could possible desire.

Or, if you’re a Prime member, you can subscribe to BritBox – or get a free trial to see if it has all the dewy, rustic murder you’re looking for.

You can give someone a Scribd gift membership – a year is $100.

MOAR READING YES PLS.

Until November 30 there is a deal on Kindle Unlimited! Three months of KU for .99 per month! Terms: you’ll be charged .99 for the first three months and $9.99 afterward, but you can cancel any time.

Kindle UnlimitedIf you miss that one, you can give a Kindle Unlimited subscription. That should keep someone you love occupied happily, don’t you think? Perfect for the introverted person at the massive family gathering who would like to hide and read (I just revealed myself, didn’t I? Oh, well).

Reading Devices

There are some early deals in and around Amazon Land – but please note, I know there are some kickin’ deals beginning tomorrow!!

New Kindle paperwhite There’s a new Kindle Paperwhite, and chances are it will not be discounted by a bit this week. I’m not sure about the other Kindles, such as the Kindle Oasis. (I have an Oasis, and I reviewed it if you’re curious. I love it, but definitely look for discounts because it is hella expensive.)

Kobo Clara ereader

There’s also the Kobo line of ereaders, the Aura, the Forma, and the Clara. I expect there will be discounts (I hope so, anyway!) though as of this moment I don’t see any. Fingers crossed!

  1. Shana says:

I’m now obsessed with those fuzzy sock fleece pants, but the listing says it might not arrive until January. Waaaah!

On my wishlist is book-themed tees in size 2X and up. Has anyone come across anything cute?

  2. Avis says:

The fuzzy fleece pyjama bottoms remind me of my favourite product that I never bought, Vajamas: so-named because they were supposedly as soft as a vagina!

  3. CelineB says:

@Shana, have you looked on outofprint.com? They have lots of cute book-themed tees and I know they just expanded their size offerings on certain items.

  4. Suzy K says:

The Barnes & Noble Nook Glowlight 3 will be on sale Nov 22-25 for $89.99 and they have the 10.1 on sale, too, but I can’t remember for how much. Just google b&n and black friday. (yes, I’m getting the glow 3 because it has more memory & I’ve filled my glow plus)

  5. Deianira says:

A few months ago I bought a whole set of D&D-themed candles for my gaming group, with the idea I’d hold onto them for Christmas. So now obviously I’ll have to add gaming dice keychains to the bags?!

I’m going to have to unleash some truly terrible monsters next month just so they don’t think I’m going soft on them!

  6. Willa says:

The Kobo Clara is discounted in Argos for those of us in the U.K. A £30 saving. £109.99 down to £79.99.

  7. DonnaMarie says:

Thank you! My list obsessesed SIL will start hounding me when she walks in the door tomorrow, and now I have one to appease her with. Or post holiday shop for myself.

  8. Kareni says:

What a fun collection. Thank you!

  9. Elizabeth says:

Acorn subscription- huzzah and thank you!! Early blessed Hanukkah to you and Happy Thanksgiving!!

  10. denise says:

I bought the Jane Austen coasters a few years ago. The graphics aren’t as nice as they appear, and they’re neoprene.

  11. Rou says:

@Shana have you tried Need Girl Tees? The ladies who run it are super sweet, and they have tons of options for book nerds! 🙂

  12. MaryK says:

There’s a site called Outofprint.com that has book themed items. I saw shirts, socks, and mugs. I just heard about it through a promotional email so I don’t know anything about them except that there’s a sale on right now.

  13. MaryK says:

They have some really cute enamel pins.

  14. Claire says:

@Shana CafePress has a huge selection of book themed tees that come in 2x. And if you don’t find exactly what you want among them, you can design your own and they print and ship it to you. Zazzle does the same things. (Caveat: you can’t use copyrighted images. But outofprint.com has several tees featuring book covers and similar that you couldn’t use in a design you make.) Have fun!
