2015 Holiday Gift Guide: Ideas for Just About Everyone

Ready for more gift guide? One of the best parts of the catalog avalanche that hits the porch this time of year is that I get to shop for everyone who reads the site. It’s a lot more fun to manage the recycling that way!

Let’s start with time – specifically watches, and time keeping. This year I’ve purchased a few different watches as gifts for friends on their birthdays or other important days, and past Sarah was kind enough to present Sarah to save the links. Ready?

Casio watch with clear numbered face and light blue leather band
Casio watch, $20

First, for around $20, this Casio watch is adorable. It’s simple and clear, and comes in a bunch of really beautiful colors including light green, pink, yellow, and cream.

The price is perfect, and the reviews are very positive, too. I’m not usually that into fonts, but I love the typeface of the numbers (do numbers have typeface? Font treatment? Numberface?).

It’s lovely and elegant, whatever you call it.

Timex Men’s Easy Reader Watch, $20-32

But there’s more watch options! For about $20, I also spotted this one: The Timex Men’s Easy Reader Watch with a leather band and large numerals that make the face easy to read.

Both this watch and the one above are water resistant – which, if I’m reading correctly, means they can handle rain or being splashed, but you can’t go shower or deep-diving to the bottom of the pool while wearing it and expect it to survive.

If there’s a fashion-conscious person on your list, they might like the Timex Weekender. There are dozens of different interchangeable straps in a ton of colors that you can use to customize the appearance.

The watch pictured at left is 52% off at 24.08 right now at Amazon, and the straps are about $10-15 depending on how many you purchase.

The watches themselves are marketed as unisex, and the case diameter on that model is 31mm, or 1.22″.

I also have a coupon code for Timex.com, in case you find a watch you like better there! You can get 15% orders over $25, 20% off orders over $50, or 25% orders over $75 with coupon code DMGF15.

I’ve noticed that watches are still very useful and in style, despite everyone having a phone with a clock on it. I somehow feel more dressed for the day if I’m wearing a watch – but then, I’m a little odd.

Ready for more?

I saw these in a local art supply store (a great place to shop for birthday gifts for children if you’re looking for new ideas), and thought they were so cool.

5x5 tiny easel with a small brush and a white surface to paint on. As it dries the image disappears
Mini Buddha Board, $14

Buddha Boards (Oh, geez, the name, I’m sorry) are small boards that you paint on with a wet brush. The surface turns black, then the art fades as it dries, allowing the surface to be painted over and over.

There’s a large one for $35 that’s 12×9 (30cm x 22cm), and the mini that’s 5×5 (12cm x 12cm) for $14. The mini is also available in different colors such as pink or aqua.

The smaller ones are sort of an all-in-one compact, and would be good for desk stress relief or for keeping kids amused while waiting. The larger one takes up more space (obviously) but would be a lovely gift for a coworker.

Monogram stationery with addressed envelopes
Monogram stationery with envelopes, $30

Another lovely gift option: stationery! We have a lot of email correspondence to keep up with, but receiving a handwritten note in the mail can brighten someone’s day.

American Stationery has some great gift sets, but one of their best deals is their standard box of stationery and envelopes.

You get 100 sheets of paper – personalized with an address or a monogram – and 50 envelopes, also personalized, for about $30 plus shipping.

Long white nightshirt with snowflakes and books, that says let it snow I've got a bookThey also have correspondence cards that can be personalized for about $30, and a lot of other options. And! Limited supply available, but there’s a kid’s travel desk with a basket beneath and a cup holder on top for $5.

I would feel guilty if I didn’t share this: the Let It Snow. I’ve Got a Book nightshirt for $30 from Signals, the most addictive catalog ever.

And, as Carrie reminds me every year, I should make sure you know about the SBTB Zazzle store, which makes me feel super awkward but some of the stuff is REALLY fun.

Smart Bitchin' ApronFor example: I use this apron daily. The Smart Bitchin’ in Your Kitchen apron has The Ladies, and two very large pockets. Mine has been through several Thanksgiving dinners, multiple Passovers and frying of latkes at Hanukkah, and general dinner making, and it’s a little in need of a wash right now, but it’s still in good shape.
It’s currently $17 at Zazzle, though their prices change a lot in the weeks leading to the Christmas holiday, and they have a ton of sales coupons.

Throw Pillow featuring The Ladies There is also the Smart Bitches Throw Pillow, which has The Ladies on the front, and says “Read More Romance” on the back.

It’s totally customizable, so if you want it to say, “No One Cares About Your Stupid Boner” or “Back off, I’m reading,” that’s totally cool.

There’s also the SBTB flask – which accompanied RedHeadedGirl and Amanda to the movies a few times – which is $25 (but again, coupons abound). And there’s mugs and mousepads, and several different t-shirts

And, hey, if there’s a thing you’d like with the SBTB Ladies on it, let me know. I can easily make it so and would be happy to do so!

For now, happy shopping, and please let me know if you find a most excellent gift that you think the Bitchery would like!

I love the gift guide posts!!

Can you update the Ladies pictures with the new, more diverse ladies?

  2. Abby says:

That stationery was a great idea! Got a box for my mom, who is forever corresponding on notepads from the dollar store. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s time to level up. Those watches are great, too.

  3. @SB Sarah says:

@Abby: I’m so glad I mentioned it – that sounds like a perfect gift for her. YAY!

@Anony Miss: Do you mean in the Zazzle store, or on the site? I’m thinking you mean the store, but I’m not finished with my coffee yet so I want to make sure!

  4. Beck says:

Thank you for this gift guide (great ideas plus I love watches) and for turning me on to Signals. I have to share this: They had (yes, had) Jane Austen bandages in a cute little tin on clearance. Most unfortunately, they are not available anymore. I would have ordered them for myself plus it would have been a great stocking stuffer for your Austen fan. I’m great at finding things that I must have that are sold out. Now, back to Signals!

  5. Darlynne says:

SB Sarah, I thought I sent an email about this as a gift suggestion, but perhaps my tea hadn’t kicked in and I merely dreamed doing so.

Jenny Parks Ilustrations reimagines some favorite comics, tv and movie characters as cats: http://www.jennyparks.com/products

I have five of her magnets now, which I saw at her booth at Wizard World Comic Con in November, and was completely charmed. Maybe some of the Bitchery readers would enjoy them, too.

  6. Mara B. says:

@Beck there are Jane Austen bandages available online from Archie McPhee’s http://mcphee.com/shop/jane-austen-bandages.html

  7. Mara B. says:

And I hit “submit” too soon! Archie McPhee’s also has Shakespearean Insult Bandages (http://mcphee.com/shop/shakespearean-insult-bandages.html), and assorted other silly bandages and other ridiculousness. If you are in Seattle it’s definitely worth a wander through and if you are not in Seattle it’s worth it to check out their website, especially if your family, like mine, delights in ridiculous stocking stuffers.

  8. Liz (Bugetta) says:

@Darlynne, thank you so much for sharing the link to Jenny Parks’ website. The images are wonderful! I can’t decide between Siamese Wonder Woman (Wonder Cat?) or Tuxedo Cat Han Solo. Of course, I want to buy them for myself, not as gifts. 😀

  9. Sarina says:

Oh, man. I really need that pillow now.

  10. Beck says:

@MaraB, it’s been a crazy busy week. I just saw your response. Hopefully, you will see this. Thank you, thank you! I’ve found several great stocking stuffers on the Archie McPhee website. I love the Shakespearean Insult Bandages too. I must have them.
