I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen is $1.99! This is the first book in the Lords of Worth series and it was mentioned in a guest post on “feminist favorites.” Bowen has recently released a couple historical fictions, but I’d love to see a return to historical romance.
RECOMMENDED: We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix is $2.99! In fact, a few of Hendrix’s horror novels are on sale right now. Carrie read this one and gave it an A-:
It’s a fantastic celebration of music, it has great characters, it’s funny and sad and awful and terrifying and hurrah and feminist, and it is all about how our passions can save our souls.
The more grounded in history the novel was, the more I liked it. For instance, I enjoyed seeing how Marianne trained every day. However, people with more patience for plot than I will love the same increasing complications that just made me want to take a nap. There’s something here for everyone and I look forward to the next book, The Dueling Duchess.
RECOMMENDED: Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines is $1.99! This urban fantasy novel combines things that a lot of us love: books and magic. Back when Carrie was a guest reviewer, she gave this book an A- grade and said it had a “fantastic concept.” Adam, Sarah’s husband, also says:
People who like fantasy in general will like this, but if you have any kind of literary nerd fandom, you will find Easter eggs in there.
This story will especially work for people who like romances with restaurant settings, complicated characters, messy family dynamics, and relationships that start from a place of antagonism (I wouldn’t call it enemies-to-lovers). If you’re looking for a reality show romance, especially a cooking show, though? This won’t be the book for you.
The Siren of Sussex by Mimi Matthews is $1.99! This is also a KDD! This is book one in Matthews’ new series, The Belles of London. The description definitely piques my interest, but I feel like Matthews books don’t get as sexy for me as I want them.
I recommend this for fans of Farscape, Firefly, complicated relationships, and cooking shows. If found family and food are your thing, you will like this book, although please be aware that the lighthearted tone takes a temporary swivel into scary and sad when the pirates get involved.
The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer is $1.99! I know there was a lot of buzz for this one because it was a Hanukkah romance. However, reviews seem pretty middling and it also still appears to be rather rooted or influenced by Christmas. I have not read it though.
For Her Consideration by Amy Spalding is $3.99! I remember mentioning this one in my Book Depository post because the UK cover is so gorgeous and this one feels more nondescript. While we don’t have an official review, I remember Shana liking this one during Slack discussions.
Honey and Spice by Bolu Babalola is $2.99! This is a new adult romance with a fake relationship. Babalola’s collection of short romances have been mentioned on the site and this is her full-length romance debut.
