RECOMMENDED: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune is $2.99! Carrie gave it a B+:
I’m glad to have a book like this to read when it’s just all too much. Like Linus, who was slowly charmed by the world he entered, I loved this story so much that I did not want to leave when it ended.
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis is $1.99! I see this one pop in the comments from time to time, especially in relation to reading favorites or keeper shelf picks. Have you read this one?
RECOMMEND: The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary is $2.99! This could be a leftover KDD from yesterday. We had a great guest review of this one and Lisa the Librarian gave it an A-:
It was romantic, sweet, hot, funny, and original – everything I’m looking for in a romance. I can definitely see myself rereading this in the not-too-distant future.
Verity and the Forbidden Suitor by J.J. McAvoy is $1.99! This is book two in the DuBells series and Shana gave it a B-:
Verity and the Forbidden Suitor is not a stand alone book, y’all. I started reading and immediately flailed in a sea of characters that I might have cared about if I’d read the first book in the series. I was annoyed, but the book eventually settled down into an unabashedly romantic, and slightly gothic, story set in a racially mixed nobility reminiscent of Bridgerton.
When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton is $1.99! This one features a character from the first book in this series, Next Year in Havana, but I believe you can manage this one as a standalone. If I’m wrong, though, chime in below! Here’s what Sarah had to say:
When We Left Cuba is beautiful and fascinating. Better recommendation comes from my house sitter earlier this year who very timidly asked if she could read my ARC of book three because she loves the series so so much and was so excited that a preview copy was in her vicinity.
Twice a Quinceañera by Yamile Saied Méndez is $2.99! This was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet and I remember Sarah being excited for this on in a previous podcast. Did any of you grab this one when it released?
Two Wrongs Make a Right is inspired, very loosely, by Much Ado About Nothing. It lacks most of the conflict of the play, but has its own charm. What you really need to know is that this is a cute book with neurodivergent characters and a fake-dating romance that is endearing if not fully believable.
A Scandalous Deal by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! This is an American historical romance with workplace elements. This is the second book in The Four Hundred series and the next one, A Notorious Vow, is a major favorite and comfort read for me. Are you a fan of the series?
The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta $2.99! I mentioned this one on a previous Get Rec’d for hardcover romance readers, though now it’s out in paperback. Lots of tropes here – fake dating, celebrities, and friends to lovers
RECOMMENDED: A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan is $2.99! This is the first book in the Lady Trent series, which Carrie really loves. Readers say the book is pretty awesome in terms of concept, but they surprisingly wanted more dragons. Have you read this book or series?
How to Survive a Scandal by Samara Parish is $2.99! This is book one in the Rebels with a Cause historical romance series. It sounds like the hero saves the heroine and the two wind up in a compromising position. Of course, the only way to fix these things is through a marriage of convenience.
